What is the pumpkin made of? Mild steel, cast iron, something else?

I'm gonna bump this thread. But my guess is whatever the rest of axle is made out of...but I do believe that there were two versions of it and I forget which is from which time era but it's either cast iron or some sort of steel. Sorry I can't be of more help.

But why are you wondering? If you're asking about it's strength in general, it will do just fine on the trails. Now if you're doing some crazy rock crawling that either fab a skid plate for it, or get a skid plate for it, like this http://www.quadratec.com/products/16238_104.htm

The pumpkin is made of cast iron. The tubes are just mild steel.

That is what I thought. I was wondering if you could weld onto this thing (pumpkin). Guess not - beyond my skills at least.
