Rusty's off road Air tube and filters??
Has anyone used these at all? I was looking and the tube is $40 and the filter is around the same, can this be a cheap alternative to other more expensive CAI's?
here is the link, let me know whatcha think!!

Honestly, i feel this is a rip off. I baught a similar K&N filter at walmart for 40 dollars... no rip off there, but the "tube"... i used a 3 inch inside to 3 inch outside diameterr peice of muffler pipe from Murrays i baught for 5 dollars and it looks exactly the same, the only other thing i needed was a small pvc fitting for like 3 dollars for the valve cover hose, i baught a fitting that pushed though a hole i cut on the rubber factory tube and it has a retaining nut on the other side to hold it in place. and mine looks almost identical to that. a zip tie holds mine in place no problem.
Edit: I shouldn't have said "rip off" I typed that after a long day of work and was obviously cranky. I'm very happy with my intake, and it looks almost identical to the rusty's set up. I do like the Rusty's set up as it already has the provision for the valve cover hose. In retrospect. the cost of rusty's isn't all that bad especially when compared to some of the others out there. So for me, my kit is better suited for my needs as it is basically the rusty's kit with the valve cover hose in a different spot and a little more thinking and time involved. But for some, i agree the rusty's kit would be the way to go as it would only take minutes to install and there would be no prior time/thought put into it. Anyway, sorry if i offended anyone, i didn't mean, i should have just said how i did mine, and that its similar and someone can save a few bucks if they're willing to put one together themselves.

Rip off I'd have to disagree with as Rusty seems to have a nice looking kit that seems to be well put together. So it all comes down to the question are you willing to spend the money to have a professional looking CAI or would you rather save a few dollars and have a make shift (pieced together kit) on a 30,000 dollar jeep. Me personnally I am waiting for a snorkel.

Personally this is my opinion, and I don't mean to offend anyone, but I have had CAIs and high flow filters on previous vehicles and done lots of dynos and talked to many proffesional car tuners. I am by no mean a expert but I think that most if not all cold air intakes are a rip off. The fact that the vehicle breaths more easily does little more than improve throttle responce and noise. In the car modding field "throttle responce" simply means it does little to nothing for actual power. Sure some race cars use aftermarket intakes but they usually also have huge turbo chargers. Another thing is that if you look at the intakes on true race cars they have a design that is called the "venturi effect" which swirls and compresses it therefore cooling the air. For the venturi effect to work tho there needs to be something actually pulling more air... ie turbo or super charger. Another thing I have typically heard for CAIs but I don't how true it is... is that the real power gains are seen on top end and not the low end, but like I said before in the past when I have done dynos the only gains I ever saw were maybe 1-2 hp. To me thats not even worth it. Agian this is just my opinion so take it as you will.
