Default Noise coming from JKS disconnects

A few months ago i put a OME lift on and some JKS sway discos that i bought from northridge4x4. About a month ago i started hearing a clunking noise when going slow over speed bumps or divits in the road etc. It gets annoying and today i went underneath the car just to make sure it wasnt a loose bolt or something with the install that was coming undone and everything is tight. When i grabbed the disco and rolled it in the bushings, it seemed that is the culprit.

Has anyone else noticed this? The JKS discos are not loose in the bushing by any means but it is easy to rotate them from side to side with my hand. When i initally got them, they were not like this at all. Is this sound just something that i am going to have to live with? Or is this not normal?

They should move easily. Did you grease them as required? There should be no clunking though. Make sure the nuts are tight. I know its kind of a PITA to get them to the recommended 65 ft./lbs. but the mounts should not spin around freely. You could remove them, and go over the same bumps and see if the clunk is still there.

I do remove them and the noise goes away. So i know its coming from them. I went and got some locktight at home depot today and going to secure those nuts on tight. Maybe that has something to do with it. I also didnt grease the bushings at all. Just took them out of the box and threw em on. I didnt know you needed to do that. What is involved? Thanks

There are 2 zerks on each disco with a red plastic cap. You just need to grease those....JKS says grease them often for the first few months or something. I use some Mobil 1 synth. multipurpose grease. Worked great. I picked up a grease gun and a flex hose for it at autozone cheap. Hope that helps. I havent heard any noise from mine.

x2 ...

Aaronheeb - The instructions also say to use some lock-tight glue like you mentioned. I ordered and received mine, but haven't installed them yet.

If you find something that works well for holding the mounts in place while you torque them to the recommended 65 ft/lbs, let me know! I broke 2 small screw drivers in the process...one came loose and I used vice grips on that one to get it tight....but not 65 for sure. :P

I had that issue with my JKS disconnects, I took them off completely and tighten the sway ends on the axle and sway bar, and that fixed it. With the discons on it wasnt noticeable that they were loose, but they loose, so after tightening them I putting to test and no more clunking sound, also added grease.

I put mine on with thread tape.. no noise at all. Greased them every 500km's or so. Now I'm greasing them with every oil change.

Thanks for the help guys. Ya, so today, went to pepboys and got some threadlocker and a grease gun. Took off the discos and all the sway ends were loose, The kit comes with a lock nut, so its not going to come off, but i could spin it in the sway bar. Needless to say, put on some high strength threadlocker and now those babies are not going anywhere (just hope i never have to take em off)

As for something to hold the sway ends, i foulnd a torx scredriver in one of my toolboxes that fit perfect, so i used that. I had not problems. And with the threadlocker, if it doesnt get to exactly 65 ft/lbs i think you are still going to be just fine. That stuff is strong. I didnt use a torque wrench on these bolts, and i dont really think it is necessary.

Thanks again... Ill make sure to grease them up again after a bit and stay on top of it...
