Do lockers care what size my R&P is?

Do lockers care what size my R&P is?
Can I buy a Wrangler X with the stock 3.21:1 or maybe the 3.73:1 gears, install a mechanical locker for now and then in a couple years upgrade to 35" or even 37" tires and go to 4.88:1 or 5.13:1 gears and use the same locker?
