Help!! Cam bolts w/ Superlift
How do you install the cam bolts on the lower control arms w/ the 4' Superlift kit. The instructions are a little vague. I think it goes in the lower arm at the axle...right? But what about the washers(holes are off center on the washers and the bolts are not threaded on one side kinda shaped like a D)...do the washers go on the outside of the bracket or do they go against the bushing on the control arm. I just really cant see how it works. Do I have to notch out the bracket on one side or both sides if at all? Kinda confusing....well at least to me.
I wish i had some pics to help explain this. The bolt is "D-shaped" so that it wont spin in the washer, and the hole in the washer is off center so that when you wrench on it it will spin that lobe on the washer around and move the bolt forward or backward, essentially moving the controll arm forward and therefor adjusting caster. As for whether it goes outside the bracket or inside against the bushing, I can't tell you for sure as i havn't yet ordered or installed this kit on my JK (that will hopefully happen this summer) But i can tell you that on the TJ model jeeps (1997-2006) There was a horse-shoe looking bracket welded to the outside of the control arm bracket for cam bolts. The washer on the cam bolt sat inside that horse-shoe so that while you would turn the bolt, the washer would stay centered in the horse-shoe and bolt would be forced to move forward or backward. If you see a horse-shoe shaped bracket anywhere on the control arm mounts, thats where the washer needs to go, if you don't see that horse-shoe, then you've got to wait until someone who has experience with this kit can help you out. ok the cam bolts are for the lower arms and they will go into the bracket for the lower arms at the axle end. if you look at the lower control arm mounting bucket you will see two little raised spots on either side of the bolt head that is what is what keeps the washer part of the cam bolt inplace. there are no horse shoe shaped place on the JK. if you remove the nut and bolt from the lower control arm at the axle where the bolt hole is now you will see on either side of the hole some "knock outs" that will make the hole that is there now a long slot, and giving your cam bolts a place to move. I'm not sure how your instructions say to knock out those "knock outs" that are on the axle but let me tell you mine were a PITA to get out, good luck on yours...
now on a side note if you can afford it get a set of adjustable upper or lower arms for the front and not put in the cam bolts you will be able to drive your JK fine while you wait for your arms to get in. I only put in the cam bolts because I had them laying arround but I will be taking them out and welding up the slots on the axles once I get caught up at the shop and have some time to work on my own stuff...

Thanks dhoffroad.....I see the raised grooves on the bracket now. Boy that is going to be a PITA to knockout those slots on the brackets...especially on the inside of the bracket. Does the major portion of the washer(side of the washer w/ the most metal exposed) go up or down? Knocking out those 4 tabs on each bracket sounds like it could take a while. Might just let the alignment shop do it because the only thing I have is a center punch and hammer. Thanks again!
seeing as the tools you have avail I'd see what the alignment shop would charge...and like I said earlier don't worry about driving it without them. I barley noticed a diff when I lifted mine and did'nt adjust .

I don't know th quality of the cam bolts, but on TJ's you could get them for the rear to adjust pinion angle, the quality for them was crap. They didn't hold very well and they ended up getting stripped. I would wait and get control arms like wayoflife said.
