Default 2K rpm intake whistle is driving me nuts!

It used to be a slight whistle that wasn't really that noticeable, especially from the driver's seat -- you could hear it more from the passenger's seat with the window open. But now, after installing the AEV snorkel, OMG, it's driving me insane! Granted I've been ridding mostly shotgun since installing it, so I'm getting the worse of it. I'm also running a K&N filter, which probably doesn't help. Is there anything I can do to remove or reduce this 2K rpm whistle?

How miles do you haveon the Jeep, could be carbon build-up in the throttle blade intensifing the condition.

It's not a speed related thing -- it happens around 2k rpm when the engine is under load, usually between 1st and 2nd, but in other gears also. For example, going up a hill at 2k. It used to be a low whistle, but now with the snorkel, you can hear it a lot more. At about the same rpm, you can hear the engine sucking in a lot more air (easy to hear with the snorkel now). I would guess it's coming from the throttle body. The sound must travel up into the airbox and up through the snorkel, so I hear it more now (snorkel input is close to passenger window).

It could also be a clutch problem:

But if it was the clutch, I don't think it would have gotten worse after the snorkel install...

It is you intake. Put the factory air box w/ factory filter on it is subdued, but still there. With the aftermarket CIAs it is more pronounced and I am sure with snorkel the sound can be heard rather well when you are close to it.

"Rather well" is putting it mildly. :-)

So... Aside from going back to stock, is there anything I can do to 'fix' the intake path or something? Do you think a throttle body spacer would help?

Not really sure how to get it to stop, because I am not sure what exactly is causing it. I believe it to be the throttle body butterfly. Other members have installed a throttle body spacer, but still had the whistle.

Throttle Body Spacers usually CAUSE a whistle, not cure one.

I have this whistle as well
I have stock intake currently with K&N filter in the box and will be going with aev snorkel if it ever comes to canada.

this whistle occurs at 1500 rpm to 2000rpm under part throttle held at a constant position, if you blip it it goes away if you release the throttle it goes away.

at this point i don't mind it kinda cute reminder that i'm driving smooth.
as u (op) already have the setup i will be getting sometime in the future, it concerns me a bit

could it be the K&N allows us to hear the throttle whistle cause the throttle plate is partially open and the turbulence is causing the whistle. where as the stock filter muffled this noise.

cheers

I have the whistle after installing the Airaid, I just turn my stereo up

But it is right about 2K rpms and most noticeable under load.

I have heard some claim to subdue it by using a pre-filter, haven't tried that yet myself, and don't think it would be applicable with a snorkle.

I think all the snorkel does is bring the whistle out from under the hood where it can be heard better.
