Default Airaid CAI and throttle body spacer

I'm new here but have been lurking long enough to know that this dead horse has been beat pretty hard. However, I felt I still needed to add my 2cents worth.

I have a 2008 2 door X 6 speed 3.21 gears and stock tires. Just your basic JK with just a tick over 3K miles now.

Mileage before adding these items was 20.5mpg. I drive 45 miles to work each way and then we use the JK for all the errand running the wife and I do as well. The window sticker said 15 city and 19 hwy so for me to get 20.5 I was happy.

I installed both parts at the same time with 1/2 a tank left and at the fill up I got 20.99mpg. I figured not bad but we'll run a full tank and see what I end up with.

Just filled up this morning and got 22.18mpg.

I drive on a 2 lane hwy every day and speed limit is 55mph with a little city driving mixed in. I don't rev it much beyond 2500 and at 55 rpm is about 1750.

I know most of you don't think a CAI will make any difference but in my case it definately did, just under 2mpg difference. To me that is a great improvement. You may not think it's worth it.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my experience with you. I like this forum and have found some good ideas and will be back here often.

thanks for your feedback! looks like the combo works! some will bash you and say that it's not significant enough for the amount of money spent on the mod. with the prices of gas, i for one am an advocate of increasing mpg's. i use my JK for the same scenario's, work is 42miles round trip for me, but we do the errands as well. i think i will definitely purchase this in the near future and squeeze all i can outta the JK for more mpg's. thanks for the research and the post! much appreciated man!
Q: did you use the Airraid t/b spacer or another brand?
Q: did u install a prefilter on your CAI or is it bare?

I think the biggest issue with CAI's are that the dealers and people think they add on an instant 15 to 20HP to the motor. Yes you may see slight gains from this bolt-on but it will be minimal. A group of us with the LX forums tested out our Dodge Magnum's (all R/T's with 5.7L Hemi MDS) on a dyno and tested stock intake and filter versus CAI's by Mopar, K&N, Volant, Airraid & AFE. Guess what????Stock intake and Filter gave the mosts HP gains on our Magnum's. The other CAI brand's actually dropped our HP.

However, the CAI did increase fuel mileage by 1 to 2MPG over the stock box and filter. I am thinking about getting a CAI system and throttle body spacer for my wife's JK to help with fuel economy. I will be adding a Pre-filter to the CAI system once I get a few funds together.

Pre-filters are well worth the $10-15 to add that much better filtration of the finer silts when you travel on dusty or dirt roads. Also, the pre-filter reduces the amount of times you need to wash and oil the re-useable filter over the lifetime.

I used the Poweraid spacer by Airaid and did not use a pre-filter. Didn't think about ordering it till after I did the install so I may add that in the future.

I don't have access to a dyno so I have no idea what, if any, HP increase there may have been. It does feel a little peppier off the line and does not seem to need as much throttle when letting the clutch out to get moving.

Oh, that little whistle people are complaining about............you guys must have the hearing of a dog or something I hear it just before 2000rpm and it stops just after 2000rpm. If I have the radio on I can't hear it at all. Doesn't bother me in the least and the wife doesn't notice it at all.

That what I thought when I added on a Mopar CAI to my Magnum R/T was that it gave some extra pep off the line. However, with the Mopar CAI I lost 5 HP from my Stock box and filter when I placed it on the DYNO.

I have that typical whistle you get with CAI's. The Mopar CAI installed on my Magnum R/T has that whistle..... sounds like you have a supercharger or turbo!!! However, I can't comment on the whistle for the JK's as I still have the stock box and filter.

I did the same thing.....installed the Airaid CAI and their throttle body riser at the same time. Worked for me. Jumped up to around 22 mpg. Auto and 4.10s.
Got a little more power and I love the sound. Whistle doesn't bother me either.

I have an air raid kit with throttle body spacer for sale if anyone is interested. PM me. Selling b/c unfortunately it will not work with my snorkel.

Tripplejeep from the fuel economy stand point I am very happy. I drive 36K miles a year and an increase of almost 2mpg will be well worth the cost of parts by years end for me.

I'll just stay away from a dyno so I'm not dissapointed

Harley.....I agree. At almost $5. a gal, anything that gains mpgs, even just a little, will pay for itself before too long.
Plus the little added power and great sound is just an added bennie....

my CAI definately added power...no quesiton. I did not notice an MPG improvement but the power was surprising to me. Still can't light up the tires, but a nice bump in power non the less.

there is a thread somewhere (I think in the Write Up Section) that had the dyno results and I think it was around 12 or 14 hp on the 3.8l (don't quote me...)
