Default can i install aftermarket rear driveshaft?

my rear driveshaft has a broken boot and lil by lil the grease inside has been coming out and i think its pretty much done so i need to replace it with a JE REEL or WOODS aftermarket..my question is is it a simple unbolt it and bolt the new one right in? is there any measuring involved? i have a 3.5" lift with 33" BFG muds if that means anything... im good with my hands i just dont have the experience but i did install my suspension lift, front adjustable track bar etc...

Hey, I did this in my garage w/ handtools. There is some measuring involved (pinion nut tightening for correct rotational torque and pinion angle for example), but it's not rocket science. There are a couple of good threads w/ write-ups regarding this exact procedure. I'd recommend tackling it yourself if you have any mechanic capability at all. I'll try to find the thread or you can search yourself. Good luck!

Edit:
Here is the link I was talking about. Note: the sockets I needed weren't the same sizes listed here, I'll look when I get home at the exact size for the pinion nut (D44) and t-case (X version - can't remember the exact stock #). Because mine is an X model may be the reason the nuts weren't the same as listed in the write-up. It was quite frustrating having to go back and forth to Auto Zone to get the correct size!

Also, WOL has a write-up w/ lots of pics here:

Hope this helps. Feel free to PM me if you have any ?'s about my post - my mind goes faster than I can type sometimes

just so you know, you will need to get a couple of very large sockets (IIRC, a 1-1/4" for the output shaft and a 33mm for the pinion nut) and an impact wrench will help out a lot. with out the impact wrench, getting the flange nuts will be very difficult to do. also, you need to be very careful NOT to over tighten the pinion nut when installing the new pinion yoke. over tightening this nut will further collaps the crush sleeve and this will change the preload.

Heck, that'd be cool. Like a vibrating massage while you're driving. I don't think I'd even try to fix that!

Sorry for the t-jack. I'm not sure of the answer, but here's a free bump.

you'll feel it like a buzz throughout your jeep - in the steering wheel, in the seat of your pants, everywhere. typically, you won't notice them until you get up in speed a bit and then it will fade the faster you go and then will come back again at a higher speed.

so can i expect driveline vibrations from any driveshaft manufacturer?
is it an easy fix via adjustable control arms?

if it's balanced right and you have your pinion angle set right, you shouldn't have any vibes. having said that, if you get 5.13's installed, your DS will spin much faster and if it's off at all, you will feel it then for sure. fortunately, you can have it rebalanced just like tires and that should fix it.
