Default stock stubby bolts?

Yes i searched and have seen many stock stubby's on here. Some of the photos dont show up any longer. I wat to cut th ends off of my front bumper but what will be holding it on? I thought only the two outer-most bolts hold it on. Every stubby pic I se is so short that those must have been cut away. How are you guys attaching it back on?

I just stubbied mine last week.

I cut it off with just enough to use the existing bolts. I have about 1.5 - 2" of flat past the "hump" then another 1 - 1.5" of angled before the flat edge, several others did it basically the same.

Sorry but I don't have any pics yet.

did you just cut yours off or are you folding it back and capping it off? i really dont want to take the bumper off to cut it. when i put my winch on i was barely able to get it all bolted up again and i am afraid if i take it apart it wont go back on. I plan to just hack right through the plastic and the metal all in one shot. dont quite know what i will do about the open ends. I havent been able to find any side pics from people that didnt cap it off.

i have been looking on here for hours trying to find this. How the heck are poeple cutting the stock bumper just after the crush cans and it not being loose? if you cut it that short only the tow hooks and gravity are holding it on?

The tow hooks do NOT hold the plastic bumper on. Just FYI

The pics of the red jeep are basically what mine looks like, I used his as a referance. There are alot of other pics in the thread though if you look through it.

There is another guy in the club who did it and it just doesn't look good to me.

Again not my Jeep so I don't have any better pics.

Default Look in what did you do to your JK this week page 260 #2591

I stubbied my front bumper last month. I wasn't too hot on the idea of trying to fold and heat weld the plastic, so I decided to cut and reinstall the ends as caps. The metal rebar with the cans I trimmed about 1/2'' past the two outermost holes on each side. this is the attachment point for the plastic bumper. The plastic bumper I measured an inch outside the can hump and ran a strip of masking tape parallel around the bumper . I then measured 10 inches further towards the outer end of the bumper and ran another strip of masking tape parallel around the bumper at this point. This gave me a 10 inch section of bumper with pretty even ends to remove. Take an angle grinder with an 1/8'' thick cutoff wheel and saw thru both tape lines. The cap is what you have left on the outside ends of the cut pieces. Clean the cut edges lightly by scraping the edges with a razor knife after they have cooled. Decide on how much overlap you want on the cap, about 1'' worked good. slowly trim the cap to fit inside the centersection of the bumper. Take a piece of masking tape and make a rivet spacing pattern with an ink pen, then install on the edge of your centersection and drill all the holes. Remove that piece of tape and put on the other side so you can duplicate the rivet holes. Install your trimmed bumper end at the angle you want it, drill the first hole on thru into the cap and set the rivet. Check your cap position and then drill the next hole, till you have the caps on. Reassemble bumper and install. These are black aluminum rivets, split shanks so the rivet won't pull thru the plastic. the back flowers out instead of swelling up. The pictures don't do it justice, I'm very pleased. I don't know how to move pictures around, they are in what did you do to your JK this week, page 260 #2591. Hope this gives some fresh ideas....

Here is what your looking for. The only problem you will have is the metal piece holding the plastic piece should be removed before you cut it. I think it would stick out too much if you didnt.

Right behind the license plate on the inside of the plastic piece, there are 5 small holes from the metal liner..use screws there to hold the plastic in place. Its what I did anyway. But I have tow hooks that wont let the plastic slip off either.

My KC lights are installed through the top of the plastic.
I left the inner layer of plastic intact and the light mounts were on top of it.
(nested in top layer, on top of inner layer)

It's too early and I'm experiencing cranial flatulence, so I'm not sure if I used screws from the bottom or not. I think I did. I'll have to wake up some more or look today.

The butcher job on the driver's side end cap was due to extremely thin walls. (Blow molding is for children's toys, NOT Jeeps!) It's kind of a frankencap, with additional patches over the cap seam.
