Default Cragar soft 8's contacting front brake calipers---some work some don't

I just did a test fit on my 08 JK 2 dr. Cragar soft 8's 16x8 w/ 5 in BS and it contacts the front brake caliper. That can't be good. I see lots of guys on here that are running them and they say there are no issues. Others say they have ground the calipers? How could that be. Some touch and some don't. That doesn't make sense to me. That sounds like a manufacturing problem of either the JK or the wheel.
Is grinding the brake caliper a smart thing to do? Sounds to me that you could run into problems down the road.
I think mine will be sent back and Ill try to find wheels that definately work.

you dont have to grind....go to pep boys if you have were you are at and get a set of 1/4 spacers will pull wheel out enough to clear the caliper......

i think they were like 7-8 dollars for a pair....the rear clears fine.....i put my jeep on jack stands in the front, and put silicone on the spacer and centered and snugged down with lug nuts and let set up so would stay in place while wheel was being changed or rotated....

One more reason I'm glad I went with the 17's I guess.

the wheel is a mass produced 2 peice wheel. so no 2 wheels are the same. most of us with cragar soft 8's are running wheel spacers. not those stupid shims, but actual spidertrax spacer. those shims are dangerous cause they reduce the number of threads available per lug.

Grinding on the caliber is a no no in my book.

If you haven't mounted tires on the wheels yet getting some other wheels might be for the best. If you don't have the tires yet I can say for sure that 17" Soft 8s will work great. If you consider wheel spacers do not use any spacer that only acts as a shim, use a bolt on type such as the type that spidertrax makes.

i know its a no,no but i am using those same spacers from pepboys. i didnt want to grind my calipers and with the backspacing of the wheel i chose the spidertrax would stick out too far. i actually had the spidertrax and took them off. i have only had them on for about 1000 miles but i have had no problems. i have wheels with them a few times as well. i have always made it a habbit to re-torque my wheels every week and i have not had any issues as of yet. not recommending it, just saying i did it and it has worked so far. oh and my wheels are procomp 97 series 15x8 with 3.75 BS. Just barely didnt clear.

I have an X. Sorry I guess I forgot to post that originally. So if I understand you correctly, Rubicon brake calipers are different than any other JK??
Wow.-- ---Next I will find out that every manufacturing plant does it their own way. Maybe thats why some cragar soft 8s fit and some don't.

I guess I should have stuck with my TJ. At least I wouldn't be worried about it catching on fire because the evap canister is 3 inches from the exhaust. What is going on with these companies and their manufacturing standards?

On a side note. I would appreciate some help with finding a good wheel/tire combo that DOES fit. I am putting on TF 2.5 , 2 bumpers and a winch. Aluminum wheels would be preferred--I think. -------I recently moved back home to snow, ice and salty roads. Thats why I originally went with steelies. Its a DD and I dont want any tire outside the fenders. There is enough stuff thrown on the doors as it is. ---Another manufacturing problem.
I have read a few threads on this and I thought I had it right. I guess I didn't and I don't want to keep going through this. Thanks in advance for any help.
