anyone attached a 37 to a stock tire carrier?
im running 37s with a 33 spare on my stock gate and im wondering if anyone managed to put a 37 on a stock tailgate with succes, im asking this because i cannot decide wich tirecarrier bumper i want and i take a while doing read ups to see who likes theres the best...Any suggestions thanks
First off, don't use that spare. You would kill your axles/ diffs from what I have read.
Second it is not recommended to mount a 37 to the tailgate. You could damage it and it costs about 700 to fix.
The tire carriers that hold 37's are few so it narrows the search quickly. I chose the LOD but the redrock4x4 with or without winch is really awesome too.
You could also mod up something but might take some real talent on the rear. Thinking a triangle style mounted to the frame rails...but then how to open the tail gate? Hinge it so it flips down... could work. You would latch it to the tailgate but the weight would be on the frame rails.
Good luck.

I have a 37" spare on my stock carrier. Had to use a spacer from AEV to move the carrier up and out. But the spare does fit.
On the same subject, I have also bought a Or-Fab JK "Tire Carrier Only" set-up. I just don't trust the weight of the 37" tire and wheel on the stock carrier. To date I have had no issues at all, but that is alot of weight and over time I think it will cause some problems......

im running 36s with no problems.
(I know its not a 37, but I thought Id share anyway)
It quivers a little when i slam the gate, but otherwise rides quietly.
I have seen tailgate mounted carriers in catalogs for up to 37s, but havent looked into purchasing one yet.

Crajos, I know I'm gonna catch a lotta flak for this but, you can get away with an undersized spare in a pinch. You don't have to be a poser mall crawler and run a full size spare. You would only want to run it for a short time and only on an axle that is open diff, preferably not your drive axle. Yes, that means moving it up to the front. Might be a pain if your flat was in the rear.
Some here will tell you that the computer will make it very difficult and unsafe to drive your Jeep that way but they don't know what they are talking about. They say the abs and roll mitigation will make it handle weird. Like I said, they don't know what they are talking about. I had to drive my Jeep with one of my front tires at 7 psi while the rest were at full pressure. (air pump had crapped out on me) That is equivalent to driving with an undersized spare and the Jeep had no unpredictable handling on the drive.
So, you don't have to be a poser and run a full size spare possibly causing significant damage to your Jeep. Just be smart if you do have to run the undersized spare and you will be just fine.
