Default Newbie with a few questions...

Hello everyone,

I just purchased an 2008 Wrangler X Silver 2-door soft top. This is my first jeep and I am absolutely shocked at what it can do in stock form! I take it offroad usually every weekend and just goof around on some of the small trails around here. It has an automatic tranny with 3:73 gears in the axles. I would like to install the TF 2.5" BB kit that comes with new springs and shocks. I know its not a huge lift but I'm new to this sort of thing. I planned on getting the lift, quick disconnects for the swaybars and an adjustable front (maybe rear too) track bar. Is there a need for new control arms with this kit? I only ask because I am concerned about my castor angles. I currently have the 225-65-16 rental car tires on the jeep that I plan on replacing with a 31" to 32" all terrain tire of the same width. I would go to 33's or 35's but I'm concerned with the strength of the axles (mainly the 30 up front) I really dont want to re-gear either because this is my daily driver. I'm basically just wanting to know if that setup sounds ok to you all and if there is anything I could do to make it work better. This has go to be the best jeep forum I have ever seen. The amount of information and help here is amazing.

Thanks for your help and let me know what you think!

No need for adjustable control arms. A rear track bar relocation bracket should be all you need in addition to the lift. I recommend doing the lift yourself as you will learn a lot about your suspension, and feel gratified with your work.

Default Welcome

Welcome to the Jeep world! Nothing wrong with a 2.5 inch lift. I went OME lift advertised as a 2 inch lift, be seems to be closer to a 3 inch with the HD springs. On the tires I would go straight to the 33's, don't think that you will have to regear. When I got my jeep I upgrade to 265/75 16's and now wished I went straight to the 33's. The Dana 30 is plenty strong for 33's.

Go for the 33's. You will hate yourself for not doing it. That 30 will hold up to them.

Welcome to the Jeep world! Everything else pales by comparison!
Ditto on the 33's. The 2.5" lift is a good choice, especially for a daily driver. If you plan on adding a winch and winch bumper you might want add 1" spacers to the front lift to give you an even ride.
And yeah, it is amazing what these puppies will conquer even in stock form

Rock On

I judt did a TF 2.5 BB but with the spacers a few weeks ago and the thing trcked straighter than stock and alignment was spot on so dont think you have to redo your whole suspension just get the kit and go from the .... good luck

That sounds great! I plan on getting a new front bumper and possibly a rear too. My jeep currently has NO pull points or tow hooks. I think I'm going to run down to the dealership or 4 wheel parts and see what they have for recovery points. I figure you need to at least have the basic recovery hardware. Even if it is stock. Thanks again guys for all your help. I love this forum already!
