Default How big of a tire can I go?

Hey, I have an 07 X unlimited and do not want to lift it, as I am a daily driver an d enjoy parking it in my garage. What size tire can I replace my 245 / 75 / 16's with. Do you think a 265 / 75 / 16 would be too big? All my parts are stock. Also what tires would you recommend for an everyday driver? I was thinking maybe some BFG's All terrain? Thanks for your input.

What gearing and x-mission do you have?
The stock size of a 245/75/16 is around 30.5" with a circumf of about 95.8".
A 265/75/16 would be about 31.6" with a circumf of about 99.5".
With a 265, when your speedometer reads 60 you would actually be going 62.25.
The dealer can do a re-flash that would bring your speedo back to reading the correct mph and also change your shift points if you have an auto. This would probably help. As for power loss due to larger dia. tires and added weight, that would depend on your current gearing.
Our 07 unlimited X came with 4.10 gears, and I plan on increasing to 265's when the current 245's need replacing.
As far as having no lift, unless you plan on doing some hardcore stuff, you should have little or no problems with 265's.

I have been running 265/75/16s on my 2dr X since March and haven't had any issues. I had the dealer reflash my speedo but it is still off according to my GPS. I think the computer reset it back to the stock size of 245. I would say go for the BFG ATs. I have the radial long trails and they kinda suck. quiet ride, but will not stay balanced. good luck

Default bigger tires

T-+he stock Rubicon comes with 32" tires. My X had 28" tires from factory. with towing kit stock X has same springs as Rubi. 32" tires will fit with no issues and 33" tires will fit but might rub in full flex situations. Of course this depends on how wide your new tires are as well. I like thinner tires like a 9in. if u were to try 12" x 33" u might rub more than a 9" or a 10".

one fellow was braggin that he was able to run 35" tires with no lift. He bought some $500 xeneon flares and bent the sheet metal inside the fenders where it joins and makes a kinda lip. I can't say fer surfe if that works but if sounds better to me than jackin up ur suspension real high.

I agree with all of the previous comments.. I have a 2007 X 2dr with Rubi wheels and tires (255-70R17) and there is no clearance or rubbing issues. However, mine came with the pizza cutter tires (28.5" I think), so my speedo is off by 10%. My gearing was the 3.21's, so I wouldn't go larger than 32" inch tires anyway unless you re-gear.

You probably have the 3.73 gearing, so shouldn't have any problem going as high as 32" tires. And yes, all terrains will be more quiet for daily driving than the mud terrains, but IMO it isn't that big of a difference either way, particularly with the doors and top on, so it comes down to your preferance for looks and mileage.

Hope that helps.

I just put 265's on my X yesterday (glad I got away from the stock donuts) and they look just right. Flexed it out and I do not see any real rubbing issues. This is on the stock steel wheels. I have some photos in my galllery.

I have seen a few run 33's with no lift, but you need wheel spacers.

I run 285/70/R17 BFG A/T KO's. I had a rub at a full turn of the wheel. I put the spacers on and the rub went away. I'm happy with it for now. I'm sure a lift is in the near future, so I might be able to get away with removing the spacers. We'll see.

The 265/75 r 16 is a bit smaller than the upgraded 17's that people are getting with the x model. If your looking for look only and don't wish to wheel it. You can buy a set of 5 of the 17's on alloys from an 08 or 09 owner for less then buying 4 or 5 of the 265's. You could even get stock rubi wheels and tires for a simular price as well.

If your wheeling and don't want any issues you can run a set of 285/75 16's and a set of wheel spacers. I ran 305's with no issues but it will effect your gas mileage more because of the width of the rubber and the added weight.
