I changed out my front diff cover to a SOLID cover tonight (finally! - after waiting for a week for Autozone to restock 75w90 fluid). After getting 'er on there and filled to the specified 1.35qts, when I throw it into 4wd it feels like I have a flat tire or something when I turn. the entire jeep kinda lags. Is this because it doesnt have enough fluid? When I put it into 2wd and its using just the rear (which is still stock because I broke a bolt from the front kit), it works fine.

 

Did you try turning in 4WD B4 changing the cover? The JK has a part time system (no central diff) so it's normal to feel the steering weird when turning on dry pavement. Actually, you should not run 4WD on dry panement.

 

Ermm, no offence, but a moderator with 4700 posts has likely had it in 4x4 before etc etc

 

Jack it sounds like it could just be wheel hop from turning. Try testing it on a dirt or gravel road and see if you get the same result.

 

Yeah, I've taken it off road a time or two.

Anywho, that is a good point about dry pavement because it was indeed dry pavement. I hadn't considered that - but it almost felt like it was locked or something. Maybe I just need to take it off road and test it

For my sanity, as long as I don't hear any grinding or anything out of the ordinary it shouldn't be a fluid issue, right?

 

OK, as offroad said then. I'll go find some dirt to play in tomorrow and see what it does.

That is all it is....Cant use 4wd on dry pavement.
