Im thinking of installing a winch but before that .. is it useful to me ?

I want to know how useful is the winch when you are in the desert (stuck) and there no trees around or cars.

I haven't tried this myself but you can dig a hole with a small shovel and bury your spare tire with the winch line attached to it to use as an anchor point. It seems you would have to have the tire buried at least 2-3 feet deep.

Just what do you think would happen? If you don't have it deep enough it's going to pull out slowly. It's not going to go flying.
How many people have tried to pull themselves out using a tree and had the tree fall on them? You have to watch what's happening. If it doesn't "feel" right stop and rethink it.

Couldn't agree with you more.

PS: this is also a good thing to have for fast recovery anchor point. Just look up Pull-Pal

Default Sand winching

Yeah the only way to do it is to bury an anchor such as a tire or log, some people have even used actual small boat anchors. Pull Pal is supposed to be the best though.

The spare works well and I have also burried my Hi-lift for an anchor point.
