Default Exhaust Hangers

The Fed Ex gods delivered my exhaust today. I was wondering how those people who have changed their exhaust were able to get the exhaust off the rubber hangers. They look and feel pretty stout. Did you use heat , WD-40 or maybe the wives KY. Please let me know what worked the best.

Use plenty of WD-40 and pry them off with the open end of a 15mm wrench. Takes 2 wrenches major pain in the ass.

I got one pulled off and left most of the skin off my knuckles up under the Jeep. Then I realized I wasn't going to be using or selling the old muffler so I just cut the nub off the rod that goes through the rubber hanger for the next one. If your not going to be doing anything with the old muffler just sawzall the old hanger rods.

I ended up using a pure silicon spray and they came off fairly easy with no skin loss. The tool of choice ended up being channel lock pliers. I put one jaw on the rubber and the other on the end of the hanger nub. Slowly squeezed until it poped off.

Default exhaust hanger removal

I think I have perfected the exhaust hanger removal technique...I used KY (WD 40 and most if not all petroleum lubes will swell and/or deteriorate the hangers...so don't use them) and a "pickle fork" (aka a tie rod removal tool). You just lube up the holes in the hangers, then push the pickle fork between the inside of the hanger and the ridge on the protruding lip on the hanger rods. The pickle fork is small at the tips and gets larger, so you push the pickle fork up until it bottoms, then pry. You can also use a giant screwdriver between the pickle fork and the hanger to flip one side up and over the pointed end of the hanger rod. I was able to remove a hanger in about one minute, with no skin loss.

Have your wife do it with her KY

Seriously, was a pain!!! i used an open end wrench with a block of wood to push the wrench against as leverage. Also some axle grease on the hanger end.

The driver's side came off easy using WD-40 and a flat head screwdriver wedged between the isolator and the hanger. Also mainly because there;s plenty of room to menuver around it.

The passenger side however was a fawktard! I ended up cutting the hanger with a dremmel and just pull the left overs out.

Here's my write-up when I installed my Gibson exhaust.....https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-write-ups-39/gibson-split-rear-cat-back-dual-exhaust-install-80275/
