Default 4" Front suspension lift- what else is required?

Hey All!

I have a JK Unlimited with the CRD Engine. I have had some custom front springs made up by a local springmaker!

Basically, I am running a Terraflex Budget Boost at the moment, so that' 2.5 inches of spacer lift and Procomp shocks to suit. Unfortunately, though, the front has sagged significantly recently with a lot of offroad and the ARB Bullbar on the front so I needed some springs to lift her up again!

Our formula was as follows:
- Match 2.5" Spacer Lift already in there
- Compensate for "JK Factory Rake" with a 3/4 Inch Lift
- Equal Spring Rates to the Petrol- allow for extra weight of the Deisel Engine plus Bullbar (85 kilo's over the Petrol Weight) = 3/4 Inch sag

So, 4" Lifted springs will probably end up more around 3" lift.

So, my questions are as follows:
- I have ordered an adjustable "Track Bar", what else will I need for the extra lift? I don't want longer shocks as the front end flex's enough now.
I figure that Procomp, for one, sell the 4" Front, 2" Rear lift with no other parts required aside from longer shocks.
- How hard is it to change the springs in the front of the JK?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Well lets see here. Since you are pushing over the magic 3" point then the adjustable track bar is great, aome people say you do or dont need it, bottom line is it is a solid purchase. Some of the other things you now need to consider are exteneded/relocated break lines and appropriate length shocks. You want the break lines to still have a little play at full flex, last thing you want is a line to rupture while your flexing down a hill (or behind a city bus in my case......the ebrake thing on the old fords actually works!!). As for the shocks, i know you said you were happy with current flex, and this is just my opinion, but get a shock that is the right length, usng your shock a limiting strap is just a bad practice.......once again, just my opinion......others will differ.

Oh yeah..........just plain have fun, that is what a JK is for!!! and send my your disiel!!!!!!

Thanks for that. I was afraid of having to replace the Trailing Arms etc etc, don't really want to go down that track.

Already use the Shocks as a limiting strap, have some front Disco's and the only thing that stops the existing springs falling out is the "Cone" on the Spacers and the Shocks. The Brake Lines are just getting tight at full flex now, hence not wanting to change the Shock Length. May have some limiting straps made up to allign with the Shock length though!

Sounds like you have done some of your homework on this. It is not a good idea to use a shock as a limiting strap. Get a true limiting strap and make sure it measure shorter than the shock (it stretches, the shock does not).

You may have issues with your front driveshaft contacting you transmission. If this happens you should replace the driveshaft with an aftermarket smaller diameter one.

Another thing at the 3" and higher lift hights is caster. In order to change caster you will need either upper OR lower control arms, possibly both. That will depend entirely how your Jeep drives after the lift, some need it, some don't.

Good call on the track bar, that is a solid purchase and will be put to good use.

Here is a complete list of the minimum needed to run this type of lift. Its step by step of the stuff you need to buy over time. And its the best lift made in my opinion.
