Default Thule Rack on 2dr

Looking around I see alot of people mounting Thule racks to the Unlimited. Anybody mount them to the 2dr? I am wondering about the mounting of the rear towers and how it was done.

I have them on my 2 door when I have the hard top on. The rear towers are placed at the furthest point possible on the front freedom panels (due to the fact that there are no rain gutters on the back portion of the freedom top on the 2 door model. Therefore, there is only about a 24 inch gap between the front and rear towers (however this works in my case, since all I use the roof rack for is carrying my snowboard and a couple pairs of skis).

Do you think that it would be able to hold 2 bikes?

Yeah, as long as you have a decent bike rack, I diffently think it would be able to hold two bikes. When I had roof racks on they were suprisingly sturdy.

I was in colorado last week and saw a TJ with a snowbaord rack on it, i glanced at it and it seemed as though they put their own rails on the top. How could you do this and prevent water leaks from the drilling? Is this even possible?

I read / saw on some site where a guy drilled & put rails on his JK, he said it worked perfect. I selected the Thule Rain Gutter for front & Artificial Rain Gutter for rear.(Drilled & Mounte them in rear))

Be careful with putting two bikes on top. As someone who used to install Thule/Yakima racks, the most common problem is people hitting things overhead. On a normal metal rain gutter, the metal bends back. I do not think the composite will fair as well. Also, you would be mounting a rack to two independant parts. This would be similar to putting a rack on T- Tops. The additional stress may cause the roof to leak over time.

For the Jeeps I would recommend the hitch or spare tire mount. They will be safer and easier to get to when you reach you destination.
