Default All 4" lift kits...Pros & Cons

Many here have lifted their JK, and many more are planning on it. Why not compare all like lift kits in one thread, a database for both newbs and experienced to learn from.

I myself am looking to lift soon and didn't realize just how many kits are now available. Keep this thread to 4" kits, if successful we can make another post for BB kits...

I'll start, since i have no experience with these kits i'll just post what i know and the MRSP...

SKYJACKER 4" LIFT
$829 without shocks
- only bad i've read is the trackbar mount is prone to breakage so adjustable track bar is probaly the best route.

RANCHO 4" LIFT
$600 without shocks
- havn't heard anything about them, quite a bit cheaper than skyjacker...

TRAIL MASTER 5" LIFT
$440 with shocks
- noticed them in a magizine add, really cheap which worries me a little...

RUBICON EXPRESS 4.5" LIFT
$3200 Long arm kit
- Very complete kit, too pricy for many but neccasary for others...

RUBICON EXPRESS 3.5" LIFT
$1400
- Another very complete kit, brake lines, bump stops, adjustable upper control arms...

Teraflex, Tuff Country, Black Diamond, Superlift, Pro Comp, and probaly a few others make kits as well...

For me its over whelming, i want a 4" kit and 37's...I'd like to get a cheaper kit and build on, but i don't want to sacrifice quality. I'm thinking skyjacker and maybe fox shocks but i dunno...so please add to this post to aid myself and no doubt countless others weed out the good and bad of lift kits for the JK...

Thanks, Adam!

I have the 4" Superlift on my Unlimited Rubicon w/ 35X12.50 BF G Muds on 16X8 black Rock Crawlers. I hate to talk so good about something because with my luck after I do.....something will break, but here goes. Drives great, no clearence issues at all. I did not cut rock rails or anything else. Customer service was awesome. I guess I got one of the first kits and there were a couple of pieces missing; nothing major, stuff I could have picked up around town, but called Superlift and they overnighted parts w/ no problems. I installed this lift in my driveway by myself. I am no mechanic and all I used were regular hand tools, in fact I didnt even have box wrenches to fit some of the larger bolts so I used cresent wrenches for most of it. However it did take me about 4 days to do it working on it a few hours a day. If you had everything you needed and a little help and some air tools, I do not see why it couldn't be done in a day. I did not install the cam bolts because I may get Rockrunner arms in the future. The instructions were decent, however it did not say anything about removing the "knock out" tabs on the front lower control arm bracket to install the cam bolts. The only reason I knew you were supposed to do it was because of the great people on this forum. Called Superlift and they explained this to me. I figured to not put them in and just see how it drove. I have had 2 TJ's my first had a 4" ProComp w/ 33's the other I had 4.5" Rubicon Express Superflex w/ 1" body on 35's. I am assuming because of the longer wheel base but the Unlimited rides a LOT better than either of those. The shocks are a little stiff but only because I used the basic shocks that came w/ the kit. But so far that would be the only thing I would change.....but like I said it is not a bad ride at all. In fact me and wifeys first impressions were dam this thing rides great to be lifted and thats before I took it for an alignment. When I did take it to a shop they really didnt do anything and said it looked good to them. I mean it tracked straight and had no vibrations, there is no dartiness so "if it aint broke". The rear track bar bracket concerned me a little w/ people talking about the Skyjacker problems but from what I see the Skyjacker bracket sits higher than Superlift which is probably the cause of the problem. No ESP problems at all after I straightened out the steering wheel. I have had no issues rubbing even at full flex, but it is almost touching the rock rails; if you wanted to run 37's you definately would have to cut those a little or maybe a 1" body lift should clear 37's w/ no problems. Couldn't be happier w/ the ride, performance offroad and especially the price of this kit.

Thanks for the review, i've since been looking at superlift. It's very affordable and comes with a front adjustable track bar, all for under $600!

Anyone else care to share?

I'll second the Superlift, it works great, I bought it as a cheap, temporary 4" lift until the aftermarket got caught up. You can not beat the it for the price.

Im also going to purchase the superlift kit. Seems like a decent kit and for the price you cant beat it. It'll allow me to save some money for other mods. Ive heard nothing but good stuff from those using it.

Check out rockcrawler.com's review. If Mike couldnt break it; the kit ought to be pretty good. I have had no problems wheeling w/ mine but I make payments on mine still so I am kinda carefull. Like I said check out the review he drove it like it was meant to be driven.
