Default Building up the stock Rubi 44...

After reading the "cute little dana 44 build" thread... I really want to build up my 44. After pricing it out though... between gearing, shafts, sleeves, and gussets, we're talking a pretty hefty investment. Almost to the extent that it'd be worth doing 60's at that point.

I genuinely don't feel like I'd have to worry about breaking a built 44... maximum tire size I plan to run are 37's at least for the next 8 years or so while I'm stuck in the big city... So I guess my main point of decision between a 44/60 is how hard is it to fix the ball joint issue experienced by the rubi 44's?

Is it possible? Or would I have to worry about it forever? I sincerely don't want to worry about that joker failing on the interstate.

If I could upgrade my 44's and be safe... It would still save me several grand over the 60's. So if this issue can be resolved, I'll build and be one happy camper.

Thanks,
Ben

How much of an issue are the ball joints "really"? Even on that ball joint poll that was up a while back only like two people claimed they had major issues and there are more insane drivers than that on this forum.

But the cases where it was a problem, it seemed to be a recurring one... If there's a problem that I potentially can't fix, I don't want to deal with it forever. If it's an easy fix (if it were to land my way) then I wouldn't worry about it.

In that thread the crown ball joints are no more Heavy duty then stock ones. I was curious so I called crown and they are stock replacements.

All you need to do is put the ORE gussets/ control arms skids and some chromoly shafts and you will be good to go.
