Default Lift...check!...wheels...check!...tires...?????

I'm another victim of "analysis paralysis." Been reading a lot of info on here about tires and need some help.

I put on about 1200 miles a month, all highway. This alone leads me to go toward an all terrain tire. Only thing is I like a more agressive look but not sure if I would regret a difference in wear. Some tires Im looking at are directional treads...is this a pain with respect to rotation?

Im willing to sacrifice SOME wear life to go with a more agressive look but again, Im confused with all of the choices. So far, I have the Teraflex 2.5 Coil lift (not installed yet) and will be picking up 16" ProComp 8179's. Based on all of this, what thoughts and advice do you guys have? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

I was kinda in the same predicament as you before I made my purchase....The JK spends most of the time on paved roads so getting Mud Terrain tires wasnt feasible ( I was looking at getting Boggers or Mickey Thompson MTZs). I decided to get all terrain tires instead, but wanted an AT with an aggressive look. I found the Mickey Thompson ATZ to fit that bill....

When these tires wear out...I think I will be getting the BFG KM2s, they are mud terrain tires....I have them on my Nissan Titan & they seem to be holding up pretty good and not wearing out too rapidly for road use.....

Don't overthink this choice. There are plenty of good A/T tires out there. The BFG A/T KO is a great, reliable tire with an aggressive look. I've been running BFG A/Ts for 10 years on different rigs, Jeeps and trucks. I just replaced some Goodyear Silent Armors on my wife's Suburban with a set of BFG A/Ts and couldn't be happier. I wasn't happy with the GYs at all. I had a set of BFG A/T on my TJ also and was very happy with them. They are a very popular tire for a good reason.

However, I feel like I have to tell you that many of the mud terrains with aggressive tread patterns have significantly improved wear and ride characteristics. It's very different from the way it was 10 years ago. Synthetic materials (and space-age components) vastly improve what was once considered a very rough ride. Although M/T tires are a bit louder than A/Ts as they wear, you'll find most of them ride and wear very well. Also, the noise insulation in the JKs is far better than previous models. My factory BFG M/Ts are quieter than my A/Ts on my old TJ! The wear is about the same too.

Stick with the big names and you'll be fine. Choose a tire you like and fits your budget. You won't go wrong with any of these choices in manufacturer. There are other specialty companies, but these are some of the big ones:

BF Goodrich, Goodyear, Toyo, Mickey Thompson, Cooper, ProComp, Nitto, Hankook, Dick Cepek

These two tires have the look Im after. the atz's seem like they would be a better choice considering the typical driving I do. where did you pick yours up?

Ok...I decided to go with:

Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ's (35 x 12.50R16)
Pro Comp Series 8179 16 x 8 with 4in Backspacing

Final question is...do I need wheel spacers with the above setup?

Thanks!!

I just bought the same wheels with Terra Grappler A/T's 33"s. Love the wheels with the 4" backspacing they pushed the tires just to the outside of the fenders but I love the wider look. I haven't been as pleased wit the Terra Grappler's, not the smoothest tire. next time I think I'm going to save some more money and go with a mud tire, the KM2's maybe.
