Default ARB air line question answered: how close is too close?

So I was well aware of the warnings not to run my ARB air line "too close" to the exhaust, but I couldn't really find any really good guidance about what that meant (half an inch? four inches? a foot?) so I ran my rear locker line down the drivers side frame rail anyway. I even thought I would be clever and apply some thermal tape near where the obviously close and hot bulb came closest to the line (ends are peeling but tape is intact):

Well, that part actually worked out okay, but after a day of running in the desert this past week, I had my line blow out just slightly downstream near the crossmember where the two pipes merge. At this point, the line is a little over four inches from the pipe. It's a little out of focus, but you can see the blowout a couple inches up from where I'm pulling the line into view:

I'll be replacing with some steel braided line, since it just seems a lot more robust overall, but I just figured I'd throw this out there to save others the hassle, since a similar search turned up nothing for me.

I've been trying to come up with something cheap I can run mine inside of so that I don't have to worry about heat or impact. I looked a little and think I might be able to go down the inside of the frame. It will be a PITA to run, but should be well protected...

Humm... yes good to know this, I will be sure to keep an eye on any good ideas running this line back to the rear axle...

I had ambitions to put in the line this weekend, I am glad i decided to wait... that means i will not have rear lockers for Moab this coming week... drat..
