Default People with painted factory wheels

so i did a test on my spare
i sanding it with 220 grain sand paper really good
put 2 coats of primer on it
and then 3 coats of rustoleom truck bed liner spray
its been 24 hours and the paint is dry but still soft( when putting the balancing weight back on it i noticed it started to push the paint)
will this harden up over the next couple of days or what
thanks

I have not used the Rustoleum stuff before but most others will be "dry" within 24 hours but not cured for a week. It should say on the can.

I'm not an expert with paint, but a buddy of mine painted his wheels black with some very good paint that is meant for wheels. The paint was out of a can and he bought it at a local auto parts store. We spent hours sanding and preping. Sprayed the paint and waited a while before mounting. Paint lasted about a week before he got his first chip. I really doubt that rustoleom spray will be any better. My buddy ended sanding the wheels again and used a good professional paint and sprayed it from a gun. Local paint shop told him he needed a paint with a good hardener to prevent chipping and fading. I would imagine you'll end up doing the same if you want a good looking wheel that will last......

I think you will have to bed liner or line-x them to get the black color to stay. Spray paint will not chip and scratch off of your wheels and you will constantly be touching them up. Do it right the first time and line-x or powder coat them.

Now I'm curious to know what the stock wheels look like painted. Somebody post a pic. I think for all the trouble of sanding and painted and possibly having to do it yet a 2nd time, I would think you would rather buy new wheels. But then, it's just a hobbie I'm sure so enjoy and please post a pic.

This is what my stock wheels looked like painted black.

This is a now my painted wheels, I wanted 15" wheels so I bought some used Canyons and painted them black.

Mine have held up very well so far. I used lots of coats of self etching primer first, I think that has been the key to getting the final product to last.

i used PPG single stage satin black. it still chips. easy to touch up. i got stuck in the mud the other day. while the tires were turning the pain was scratching.. it just happens nothing you can do. as for the weight i brought it to the alignment shop and had them do inner wheel weights. it looks really nice without the HUGE factory weights. good luck

thanks guys yeh i did realize the tempature waw a factor
i painted them and it was 76 degrees and the next day it dropped down to about 55 so that probably helped
i did use a self etching primer made for metals and i used a bed liner agian
i sanded the wheel greatly so it has gotten harder i just think it needs to sit in the sun for a week but besides that i have gotten many complements on how it looks
