Default dust shield noises after new shaft?

ok, i have a tom woods rear driveshaft on my 2 dr 07 x. I had it put on and had the dust shield put back on the yoke. the only thing is, i think it is making noise because there was a noise coming from my rearend but it only happened twice and if i stopped and sat for about 20 seconds, the noise would not continue.

so i got underneath my jeep last night and i can turn that dust shield by hand, just kind of spin it around the shaft of the yoke on the rearend.

how important is this dust shield? and what can i do so that it either spins all the time with no noise or doesnt spin.

thanks.

sounds like it's just not seated right. if you pull the yoke, you should be able to work it back in place by hand or by tapping it down lightly with a hammer.

I have read in other posts and from Jim yesterday (JE Reel), that the dust shields are not to be put on the replacement yokes/flanges. Does this statement differ between driveshaft brands?

so it needs to be seated on the yoke more? so by that logic it will spin at the same speed as the driveshaft?

thanks

LOL!! i just re-read the original post more carefully and see where the old shield was re-installed. as you have pointed out, it should not be reinstalled. reading too quickly, i just assumed that we were talking about the factoy flange

naw, you don't want it on your new yoke.
