Default Rear Recovery With Tubular Bumpers

I really like the look and functionality of this rear tubular bumper made by Olympic 4X4, but I am worried that it does not offer any rear recovery points. I was wondering if you could winch/tow using the bumper itself as a recovery point? That is, could you wrap your winch around the tube itself as the design is enclosed?

If not, what is recommended for a rear recovery point for bumpers such as this. I should mention that I do not have a rear tow receiver hitch.

Here is a link to the bumper I am referring to:

Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't wrap a winch cable to it. Use a tree saver on the bumper to attach a winch line. I don't think I'd be to worried about using it for light to moderate pulls. They say that it puts 1/4" of steel between what ever you'd hit and your jeep so it sounds like it's constructed out of .120 (common) or .125 wall tubing. But only attach the straps close to where the bumper mounts to the frame and you should be ok IMO.

if you dont tow, you could also just get the OEM rear recovery hook, it will do the job, is cheaper than the hitch set-up and has better departure angles than the hitch. thats a good looking bumper BTW. very nice.

And if your dealer is like mine, go there and ask for one.. mine gave me one free of charge as they remove them all the time to install tow hitches

Here's the Olympic defender bumper with hitch and with D-ring shackle - I've no complaints on any of the parts, all are very solid.

(Ignore the position of 60" Hi-lift in photo, I've since positioned it higher and with better ground clearance)
