Default 48 v 60Hilift

Hey all,

Im going to pick up a hilift as I build out my recovery kit. Im thinking it wise to just grab a 60 inch jack instead of the 48 for the extra 15 bucks.

Does anyone have some pros/cons about the 48 versus the 60 or is this a personal preference thing?

Thanks,

--Josh

this was just covered a few days ago same post if you search you can prob find it.

some people said they liked the 48 because it's easier to store less bulky. but other than that there is really no difference as far as im concerned. also depends on what kind of lift you are going with

Hmm couldnt find an earlier post even with a 'hilift' search.. oh well. Next time.

Just installed a 3" BDS suspension lift, which actually netted about 4 inches. (kinda funny - got more lift and the 32s look like pizza cutters now lol ) When the dough comes in I will move to 35s instead of the 32s I have now - I cant imagine that even with the 35s I would *need* the 60 for anything...

if you already have a 48" can you get the longer "pole" if you need a longer jack? (Not sure what you call the main beam for the jack)

Bigger is usually better in most apps, especially if you're also using the hi-lift as a manual winch. The 48 can be mounted in many places on a Jeep. The only safe place I found for the 60" is mounted vertically on the rear bumper.

60" hilift is really hard to mount some place without it getting in the way.

I use my 48" and a ratchet strap between the axle and frame to keep the suspension from dropping out.

I've got a 60" and recommend it highly. Harder to mount but it is worth it. I've been in situations where the 60 was a couple of inches from being maxed out. Of course part of it depends on what your vehicle is. A stock X and a lifted 4 dr on 37's have different needs.

i was going to trade mine for a 48" but i've been leaning towards just keeping it.
I mount mine horizontally on the swing out tire carrier. No problem as the Jeep is wider than 60".

Here's the first pic for this thread - DON'T gimme sh&t for the position - I since moved it higher, repositioning the Hi-lift tube bumper brackets, so the 60" jack is now fully above the hitch, and no (less) ground clearance problems.

If i did that with RubyDoo, it would have been ripped off a long time ago.
