How is the jeep on the dunes?
There are some threads in here with users from the middle east, they usually run larger tires, some add hemi's and they float around on the dunes.
Do a search on youtube for video's too, just remember what sand does to vehicles.

I took it out on a beach in Texas (not a whole lot of big sanddunes, I know) with it pretty much stock. I had no problems at all. I watched a guy in a big lifted Ford truck bury himself, while I just drove on by.
It was one of those secluded beaches that you can drive 15-20miles on, and I assumed I would need 4wd... but it coasted along just fine without it.

A few sand tips - I grew up 10 miles from the Silver Lake sand dunes in West Michigan. Grease everything when you get done - it purges sand that has gotten into places where it can do the most harm. Very low tire pressure is your friend. In a straight line speed is your friend. A manual trans is your friend - start out in a high gear and you won't dig yourself holes. Paddle tires can be a ton of fun, but not very cost effective and silly on a JK IMO. If you run directional tires swap them from side to side when you get there so they are running backwards - very effective. Remember you are not a sand rail or other specialized sand vehicle, so don't push it too hard. It can be very easy to roll, especially downhill.
If you want to really have fun in the sand, buy a sandrail and tow it to the dunes with your JK. A two seater can weigh as little as 1000 lbs, not much more than a heavy ATV.
FYI In my experience chicks dig sand and sun way more than mud or rocks!

A group of Nor Cal dudes went to the dunes in Pismo.
Spinningbullette has put together some of the pictures. I posted them here.

Some of my favorites:
Steep hills were fun, but hard to go over the cliff.

Salt water bath to cool off MBATF's engine and test ZIP's snorkle.

MBATF coming down off the jump.

no worries- just glad you were able to drive home. it was well worth getting up in the wee hours of the morning to make the drive down. when i got home, i backed into the garage with my antenna still on and knocked the tip off
there were some better photographers in the group, but here are a few pics...
