Default 1" body lift w/ 6spd manual

I've just about decided on a 1" body lift but trimming the inner boot and other shifter problems are scaring me. Is this really something to be worried about? I can't really picture why trimming of the boot is necessary, but are there any other alternatives? I've heard others say that their shifter was never smooth or the same anymore. Is that true?

I will be installing one on mine probably thursday of this week. trimming the boot is to allow for proper movement. But there are some cases where people dont have to do any mods to the shifter and it works fine...others have slid the whole body of the jeep back on the frame and then it worked fine as well, i think it really just varies jeep to jeep. If you search there are quite a few threads explaining what other people did....i'm hoping mine goes smoothly!

its nothin really to worry about. just use an exacto knife and/or dremel. you could also bend the shifter like they use to do on the TJs

Good luck with your lift later this week, 07Rubi2dr! Let me know what you think.

Yep, I've read a bunch of threads on all the potential problems. But I'm looking for input on how bad these problems are. Like, what's the down side of trimming the inner boot? Is it actually a lot louder? What about fumes, dust, etc.? I've heard about these as concerns, but are they reality? I've read about the shifter never working the same. Is this common? Does it totally suck to drive after? Or do I have a good chance of not having this problem?

Basically, yeah there's already threads out there covering what could go wrong or isn't ideal, but I'm just wondering if people who have done this mod feel it is worth it. Seems about 50-50 so far so just looking for more votes.

Thanks axsys!

Gotta love Jeeps! Yeah, I have read about this. Thanks for the input, Planman, as always.

Also, you will want to add some weatherstripping to the outer boot console to reduce the transmissin noise that makes its way past the newly trimmed inner boot.
im getting ready to do mine this week im just gonna tie a big rope around a tree and floor it i dont want any premature brake failure!!!!!

I had to trim my boot quite a bit to get it to work. What actually happens is the shifter will pop out of gear in 2nd,4th,6th and reverse if you dont get it trimmed or moved just right. I plan to eventually remove the inner boot and replace it with an aftermarket one. I just have not devoted much time to it.

I installed the M.O.R.E. 1" body lift on my JK, I felt the same way about trimming the boot, once the bl was on I took it for a ride and had no issues with it coming out of gear not 2 4 or 6. Put about 2k on it so far no cutting, I recommend that you give it a ride before you get to cutting.
