Default Mopar Soft top Boot Install issues

Does anyone have any words of wisdom on how to get the tubed strip on the Mopar soft top boot into the tailgate retainer channel? Maybe I'm just tired after traveling for 36 hours, but it appears that the tubed strip is just too big. The provided details suck. All things considered, any help or advice would be appreciated.

Yes, I understand it is suppose to slide in, but it doesn't. The pipping with the sleeve is too big to fit into the channel. I can't imagine doing this every time I take the roof off. I skipped the channel today and just wrapped the top. Works, but I want it to work right considering the cost.

Cheers!
