Default COLD AIR INTAKE QUESTION:is it worth it?

I am running a K&N drop in filter with the stock air box combined with a MagnaFlow exhaust & SuperChips FlashPaq(Not installed yet, waiting for the FlashPaq update). She runs pretty good w/35s & has a fair amount of low end power with the a/c & muffler.2/QUESTIONs:Is the Airaid /Afe/K&N etc.cold air intake really worth the extra money? Will my JK-X lose low end tq by going to a more open intake? Regards,Tom

I have the PJ CAI on mine. Now lets face it most CAIs are the same so the question is how much are you paying for it. The stock box (especially with a drop in K&N) is pretty darn good, its awesome when playing in water, The CAI may give you a little oomph, but IMO it wasnt worth the money. At least not the 100 I paid for it. If you are getting a great deal then go for it, if you are paying full retail then stick with the stock box. And no matter what you do, dont get rid of the stock box, comes in handy for smog inspection and winter/wet driving.

I had put a cold air intake on my Rubi because I drive trhough alot of fields with weeds and the filter has more surface area so I figured it wouldn't clog as fast. My original air box would fill up with seeds and other debris whlie running through the fields. My son bought a snorkle for me for my B'day last week as we also run through quite a bit of mud, beside the snorkle just look great. I only saved the air box from the original setup but it was easy to adapt the CAI tube to fit the air box so that is what I am running now. The CAI sounded better but the performance increase was negligable.

Makes the engine sound much better and you get a slight inrease in performance and mpg.. I have the Airaid and prefer it to the others because it has a cold box that keeps mud, water, and esp. heat off of the engine away from the filter.

Is it worth it? No

Did I still get it? Yes

Would I get it again? Probably

Didn't you say it's not worth it? Yes

So why would you get it again?

i had the air aid the biggest difference was the throttle response. after i took it off and went to the AEV snorkel i noticed that i did not have as much throttle response as i did with the airaid on.

How about the drop in K&N filters? Any added benefit of those to recoup the $60 you pay for them? I know you can clean them, and it takes about 3 to 4 to pay for itself that way, but anything else?

i have a mopar cai and it was great until i hit a mud hole - then it became a cmi - cold mud intake = not good. i had to replace the filter ($50) and fab a 'box' around the cai to try and prevent reoccurance.

my mopar cai sucks up a lot of dust too - so net net if i still had my old box i would put it back on. any power gains are not worth the risks or money unless you don't plan to offroad.

if you get a cai, make sure it is contained. i'm appreciating the engineering that went into the stock air box now!
