Default Jeep tire carrier...in jeep?

Has anyone fab'd a tire carrier for inside the jeep either upright or laying flat? Yes I know you can just throw a spare back there and use tie downs, but I am interested in a pic or two of a spare "mounted" in the rear cargo area.

I just like the look of a clear back of the jeep and an unobstructed rear view especially with larger tires.

Do you have a 2 door or a 4 door? I don't think there is alot of space in the back of the two door for a big tire (see below)

I'm pretty sure he's just thrown it in there, but it gives you an idea of the proportions.

If you really want that unobstructed view and a clean rear end (which I personally don't think looks good on our Jeeps), another option would be to mount it to a roof rack. Probably only practical if you already want or have a rack, and also might affect handling by raising the COG. See below:

I have a 4 door so there is plenty of room for 32-33's. I was just interrested if someone has fab'd something yet (assuming of course anyone besides myself cares).

The rescue green jeep driver better have some friends or a boom crane if he gets a flat. It wouldnt be hard to get the spare off the top, but getting the busted wheel back on top....

Thanks AlmightyCrash, kinda the idea I was thinking. I have the regular 4 door hardtop so was thinking of having a bracket fabricated so the tire would mount upright and on the drivers side inside the jeep sorta like on the Jeep Cherokees.

I'm only running 32" tires so they are not that big.

It's just a thought, but maybe one day.

I just made one for my 2 door last week but it mounts where the rear seat used to be. I made it removable so it attaches almost the same way the seat did so no help for you 4 door guys. I must say though that the jeep rides down the road so much smoother now with the weight off the ass end.

That's a cool carrier in the back, but don't think I'd want to rock the "no-tailgate" look in the winters up here. Gotta seal the rig up like a submarine to stay warm up here.

Yeah, I kinda did the same thing when I had my TJ, it did produce a much smoother ride and reduced bonce.
