Default for or-fab tire carrier owners

i have the tire/can carrier on my 2 door. i got it installed about 3 weeks ago and i really like. i have a 35" mtz with 17" classic 2 hangin on it. i have cans on there but have only put gas in them once for a trip from alabama to texas....

my question is, when you are driving and hit a bump do you get a rattle or squeaking noise inside the cabin?

this is happening to me and i can figure out what is causing it, i know it is the carrier because it didnt make this noise before.

I need to adjust it a little because it settled over the road trip to texas... and now it is lined up with the landing block properly, is this the cause of the squeaky rattle? it is sitting lower than the landing block.

any help on this would be much appreciated..

thanks

I have the non jerry can version, but they are virtually the same. When I installed mine the instructions mentions after you bust your ass trying to get the bolts on the passenger side inner bracket and get the tire mounted that to make sure that the carrier is a bit higher than the landing block so that they properly align after mounting the tire. Now my tire carrier sits a bit below the landing block. I left it like that because it was too much trouble to realign.

I have had mine on for about a month and no rattling. You might need to torque down again those inner brackets and check to see how snug the carrier fits into the landing block. You might want to make that tighter too.

Now that I remember, the chrome sticker that goes on the tailgate where the rubber block makes contact with the tailgate is slipping upwards. I may have to replace it very soon. With out it I think it might cause some noise and scratch the paint.

Hope this helps

yeah i spoke to the guy that put it on and he said that those two hinge bolts have a ton torque on them.. that could also be the problem... what is the torque supposed to be on them?

i got the carrier adjusted yesterday so it hits the landing block correctly.. i had to tighten down the three bolts that are holding the hinge stuff on.. that one that is right beneath the hinge of the carrier is a B to get to.. i think i need to grind my hinge down more so i can get my wrench on it better and tighten it way down.. i think that is where most of my noise is coming from.. still liking the carrier though..
