I dont yet have a jk but i am planning on getting one. I was wondering if i was going to run a 3 in lift and 35in tires, what gears can i run and still be able to drive back and forth to work?

5.13's will make it run nicely...

 

5.13's are a bit much for 35's if you plan on driving on the freeway. If I eventually go to 35's, I plan on going with 4.56's. If I had an automatic, I would go with 4.88's. As you lose about 20% of your torque with the auto trans.

I have 35's and 5:13's if I had 4:88's I doubt I would be happy, the 5:13 with auto are perfect unless you live and drive in the mountains, then I woudl go 5:38

What do you think you loose about driving on the highway? I have 38k on my 5:13's with plenty of highway can cruis at 70-75 running 2700rpm and can pass no problem if I want to

 

Maybe I am too used to having engines with torque. My other Jeep has 4.56's and its geared too low for the HWY IMHO (granted it doesnt have an over drive). Although its great offroad.

But my JK also has a D30 up front, which has microscopic gears to begin with. The lower the gearing, the weaker the gears get.

According to a gear calculator, with 35's and 5.13's, you should be running 3100rpm at 75. You may want to check your speedometer.

35's and 4.56's would be 2758rpm at 75mph.

 

Speedo has been recal(have hypertech) and I also check with gps, and have confirmed that with radar. If I were you I would find someone with 5:13's and 35's and drive it. I'll take a pic of speedo and tach if you really like. I'll be taking 600mi one way trip friday, I usually set the cruise from 70-75. Our JK's and their 3.8's are just to different to go with the old way of thinking and gears IMO

 

Guess I need to get into the toyota mind set There mind set is "there is no such thing as too low". 5.38's for 35's, marlin crawl boxes, etc.

And I just realized you must have an automatic transmission. Thats why you are only running 2700ish rpm. With a 6sp, its 3100 rpm.
