Default Superchips Flashpaq '09 Unlimited X 6sp

Picked up my Flashpaq today from my local shop, Off Road Innovations. They got me a sweet deal on it ($320).

Let me just say that I was not expecting much at all. Especially not the claims I had read in other threads. Before I got my Jeep, I was big into tuning high end euro race cars. So, I know what you can get from just fixing the ignition timing and flattening out the fuel maps. So i figured it wasn't much further than that, as thats how ST1 chip tuning is done.

Well, I was wrong.

I can't give a full write up, as I have only driven 75 miles or so, but I can say engine hesitation is gone. When you step on the gas it moves. Period. I like it. It has a smoothness about it now, that definitely wasn't there before. I'm not going to sit here and post 0-60 times, because i think its stupid. Thats not what these are for.

I have been driving around on the 87OCT tune, because thats what i have in the tank. I had a 1/4 left when i installed it and figured I would burn the gas up and put in a tank of 93 to see what the high end tune was like. Just out of curiosity. Well, 75 miles later and gas light hasn't even come on. So I will have to wait a little longer than i anticipated. Normally, I would have had to fill up by now, so I can obviously tell gas mileage is being improved as well.

I definitely wished I hadn't bought the AEV Procal now. Don't get me wrong, its a good product, but the Superchips does so much more. I am very happy with the product and am glad to say I didn't have any problems with it.

As soon as I get some 93, I will post on that as well.

I see MBRP in your sig. and wonder how they sound. I would ike to relocate the muffler due to overheating my amp after a longer drive. The thermal sensor kicks in and shuts amp down at least.

I ahve heard sound clips, they seem deeper sounding than the Magnaflow.

Ok, not thread jacking here, on with the SUPERCHIP report.

I have the relocated system. It seems kinda ricey. I have heard clips of the regular system, and it sounds deeper....maybe better. But its a vid clip. I'm kinda on the fence about the sound.

Rreally? When mine was a stock mbrp relocate it sounded nothing like rice. It had nice deep sound, more when you stepped on it. But, now that I modified it, it's all balls. I removed the rear two pipes and put a tip right on the muffler. Had to relocate the evap though. BTW, thanks on the SC info. I've been trying to pick btwn this and the hypermax.

Good to be a skeptic on automotive after market claims, better to be proven wrong after you shelled out the greenbacks.

First mash on the throttle and I knew my JK had more power. Was it measurable, could I convey that to others, probably not. The seat of the pants descriptions I had read from other peoples posts on the Hypertech left me largely disappointed when my butt meter didn't work the same as theirs. That's why I ran some 0-60 tests, not because that's how I drive my JK, nor what I bought it for, just so I had numerical data to provide to others. If you think it was stupid, then so be it, but I felt a lot less stupid doing that than trying to squeeze my 6 cylinder Jeep in between a 900hp Camaro and a 750hp Mustang at the dyno shop where so many people had asked me to go to provide "real" numbers.

As for the 93 tune, I'm so far not as inclined to use it as I once thought. From stock to the 87 Tune, big jump. From the 87 tune to the 93 tune, not as much. I'm not even sure I can tell that big of a difference between the two and the differences are more measurable than perceivable. However, I can say the Superchips 87 tune was better than anything I ever had from my Hypertech no matter what octane I sent down it's gullet.

Definitely glad to hear you are having favorable results and look forward to hearing more in the future. Also glad to know that I'm not full of crap with the details of my Superchips review as it seems your findings are pretty much one in the same.

Default I'm with Stupid!

I guess I've been called Stupid before, and like before, it probably fits.

While non of us expects our JK's to be race cars, many of us dream that they were a little bit closer to them than we might care to admit. Seriously, are we to think that JK owners don't desire horsepower and torque, just like any other auto enthusiast? Likewise, don't we desire the ability to "floor it" and have it jump off of the line from a dead start? I do.

I know, OBX_JK didn't call "anybody" stupid, just our methods.

I like the write-up OBX_JK provided and I agree with it except thinking that 0-60 times are stupid. Now thinking you can get 6 second 0-60 times.... well that's just plain silly.

Stupid out.

That's great news. Mine is on my way from Northridge4x4 and should be here Monday.

I used to do my own tuning on a very fast Subaru WRX I had. For naturally aspirated engines, the factory usually doesn't leave a lot of horsepower sitting on the table. Most of the horsepower that is left on the table that these tuners give you are in the upper RPM range. So I suspect that the dramatic improvement in feel that people are getting from this tuner is more about the driveability and specifically the management of the drive by wire throttle.

I'm really excitied because I think Chrysler did some things in the name of emission controls that makes the throttle feel like it's about 1 full second behind the drivers inputs. I'm guessing that the Superchips folks addressed this and that's why it feels so much more responsive.

I agree. But, thats why their's a HEMI conversion on the market. For me, the HEMI conversion is not enough though....i'm definitely going to see if I can stick a Cummins in there.....after the warranty runs out of course. (I have one sitting in my garage)

I will say, however, the motor is awake now. The throttle response is VERY nice, which is what I care about.

Also, on a side note, I was paying real close attention to my exhaust this morning, and noticed the sound is a little bit different. It sounds deeper. Much more acceptable. I didn't really worry about the ricey note before because you only hear it on hard accel, while cruising you barely hear it, even with the top down.

Oh crap, that's certainly not the way I meant for it to come out if it did, and just wanted to clarify why I had even bothered to do them. I do them on my truck as well, and it's really just to re-calibrate the butt meter and find differences it can't.

As for 6 second 0-60 times they are easy to obtain. Just need a big enough cliff to push the JK off of.
