Default 6-Speed, 295 or 315, 4.56 or 4.88, Altitude

Gents,

Looking for advice. I have read a lot of the gearing threads and thanks for all the info. My Rusty's 3.25 lift is going on next tuesday. I am a road warrior and light trail user ( no crawling ).

Here is the x-factor, I live in colorado and drive at 5280 - 10000 feet. I do drive quite a bit up I70 and 285 to get to my favorite trout holes.

So what combo would you go with on a 6 speed manual to get up and down the mountains and daily drive.

4.56 w/ 295/75r16
4.88 w/ 295/75r16
4.56 w/ 315/75r16
4.88 w/ 315/75r16

Thanks in advance!

And advice on rear tire mounting options is also welcome!

If I had the money, I would do 4.88s with 35's.

No question. 4.88s. You will have the power to go up all those hills and not be cussing that you wish you would have higher (technically lower).

I would tend to agree with the 4.88s at a minimum. If this was an automatic you would be thirsting for more with 5.38s. After you get your lift and tires I would roll it around on your typical cruises and find out what gear you are downshifting into. If you aren't rolling back to 4th, the 4.88s will be fine and if you are 5.13s might be a better call.

How much gear do you typically carry and any armor or bumpers?

I would think you would do best with 4.88's and 33's unless you need the additional inch the 35's will give you. More power than with 35's.
