Default Do you wider wheels tuck behind your fender flares?

I want to buy Super Swamper SSR tires- 305/70 (33.9x12.4). I also want to buy 16x8 U.S. Wheels 84 Series, Black. These wheels have 4.25" back spacing. I figured I would be good with a 2.5" lift, but here is my concern. My stock Rubicon tires tuck behind my fender flares at full flex (sway bar disconnected). If I had wider tires and/or smaller backspacing, they would rub the outer edge of the flare where it lowers downward.
My question is for people with lifts, wider tires, and wheels with less backspacing (or wheel spacers). Do your tires tuck behind your fender flares at full flex? I'm afraid that the tires and wheels I like may be too wide and rub on the lowest portion of the flares unless I lift my Jeep to the moon. I like a wider stance for stability, and I don't care if I get extra mud flying from tires sticking out. Thanks for sharing any experience.

i think you'll be good with the lift...if not, just adjust your bump stops to limit the flex...

With my 285/75 16 (11.3" wide) tires on 16x8 and 5" backspace, my tires are barely, about 1/4-inch past the fender flare. If you go with that tire/wheel combo you mention above, your tires will stick out past the fenders about 1-1 1/2 inches, with a 12.5" tire. Not sure about rub on the fender.

Look a couple of posts down at thread called "16" MT classics 33 MT MTR No Lift Rubbing?" There is a pic of a white JK with 305's flexing and it appears the the tire is going inside the fender. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I will try the tires/lift when I convince my wife that it is a wise use of our money.

re-check your calculations

305/70/16 = 32.8/12.0/16

just a heads up!
