Default Tow Package and Navigation from factory vs. OEM dealer retrofit?

What would be the difference from ordering it directly from the factory vs. having a mopar hitch kit installed at the dealer?

I noticed that on the website it states that the tow package comes with TSC (Trailer Sway Control). Can I get this as a retrofit?

I'm looking for a Rubicon with:
-Manual Tranny
-Navigation
-Tow Package

My dealer has Rubicon in Manual but no Navigation or Tow package. They said they are willing to retrofit the Navigation and Tow Package with OEM parts. I just wonder if it will be the exact same as from the factory or not. Should I proceed with this one or just wait for a 2010 and order it the way I want?

Any feedback would greatly be appreciated.
Thank you.
D.

On a JK Rubicon, really no difference. The tow package was one thing that mine didn't come with and I added it myself.

On that note, I would never pay anyone to add the tow package to a JK. Its insanely easy and can be done with a few simple hand tools. I did it by myself laying on my back in a parking lot in 30 minutes. If I had to do it again, I could do it in 15-20 minutes. It took me a minute to figure out how to route the trailer wiring. The "directions" were terrible.

edit: actually on the '09s you would be minus the trailer sway control. You'd have to have the dealership flash the computer for you to make it work. Mine's an '08 so it wasn't available yet.

The MyGIG (now called UConnect) is very nice and one of the few things I find completely indespensable day to day on my JK Rubi. That being said, it was expensive.

There are a variety of aftermarket products that are as good, if not better in some respects. One of the big things the UConnect misses out on is the Sirius weather updates that are now available on other aftermarket units from companies like Kenwood.

That being said, I like the MyGIG and it's capable of a lot more than what it says in the manual if you do your homework such as hands free and DVD while in motion for your back seat passangers.

Is it worth the extra money? Probably not anymore. I bought it because at the time it was the only in-dash hard drive player available. Now OEM companies are making them for nearly the same price. It's all up to you.

The biggest fault with the MyGig IMO is that it has way too many problems. My original one already had to be replaced and my current one still has hiccups occasionally. The failure rate with them is RIDICULOUS. I know this because I used to sell Jeeps and my dealership group had a Jeep store up until recently. The service writers told me that even on the '09s they're constantly replacing them.

I can't really speak for the tow package, my JK came with it

I can say though, don't bother with the MyGig. For the money you can do far better with an aftermarket head unit. I have the MyGig, and it's pretty cool, but it definitely leaves some things to be desired.

There is really no such thing as a dealer installed tow package on a manual JK because the tow Package includes 3.73:1 Gears on the X and Sahara. I added MOPAR receiver and wiring for less than $200 ... but still got my 3:21 gears.

But I'm looking at a Rubicon Unlimited.

Oh .. nevermind ... dealer install and factory install is the same in that case ... Or better ... since dealer can install 7-pin harness if required - factory is 4-pin.

I initially bought the 7 pin harness for mine but I took it back because it looked like a PITA to install and I'll probably never tow anything heavy with it anyway.
