Camp fire wood in Unlimited
Hey guys, the wife and I are heading out next week for camping and we are just going over everything. Maybe a strange question but have you guys hauled camp fire wood in your jeeps? In the past we always used the truck but we are headed for dune land and it seems unnecessary to bring both vehicles. I am a little picky about not trashing the inside of the jeep so I am looking for suggestions. The obvious things are putting a tarp or mat down in back which is most likely what I will end up doing. The stay is 4 days so really 3 days worth of wood. I always end up bringing way more than I need and giving to others when we leave. If i could find some sort of crate to hold the wood that might work also. The wood I will be getting is not bundled, my parents heat with wood stove on the farm so I always get wood from them.
An alternative is to use a rack mounted to your receiver. they are about 49 bucks and about 2.5x4ft or so. room to carry other stuff too. Just make sure to remove it at the camp site before you go tooling about. Harbor Freight and similar sell them.
Doojer: Now that's a packed jeep! Looks like a load of fun. The rack in your pic might work better for me as the hitch will be in use pulling our pop-up camper. Do you have details on that rack above the spare?
Thanks for all the other suggestions, looks like a tarp for this time around and I'm fine with that...just ready to get away for a while and have some fun!

last time I carried my fire wood on a hitch haul rack, along with the cooler. so I did'nt get any unwanted guests tagging along ( bugs and stuff ), had enough wood for 2 nights out.

The trail rack is part of my LoD rear bumper setup. That particular pic is from the 1st gen bumper. I've since switched it out for the sig series:

You can also keep an eye on the "For Sale" section for members who are upgrading to the sig series and selling their 1st gens for cheap.

I don't want to start an argument, but this question had me scratching my head a bit.
I don't know how far "dune land" is from the OP's parents' farm ... and if it's just around the block, never mind. But ....
I was taught it's a no-no to transport firewood. It's a prime way to introduce nasty little hitchhikers into the area. Insects, tree-killing diseases. That sort of stuff.
Especially if you're not immediately burning it all and instead leaving the extra behind for 'others.'
Not very 'tread lightlyish' methinks?
