Default towing a jk behind a motorhome

what do you do about turning off the key when you tow the jeep?
If you turn it off, it locks the steering wheel. If you dont turn it off, then the dash lights stay on. this is a 07 rubi w/auto trans and I have been told the 09's do not have this issue.

You will have to disconnect the battery. I do this all the time.
The only down side is that you lose the radio pre-sets.

I flat tow, have a 6 spd though, got a key made to fit with no electronic interlock so if I were to forget and leave it in a thief would only get about 10 sec of run time.

I have no lights lit with the ignition on "acc", and my steering wheel is not locked, are you sure yours is? Most aren't. I do not disco the battery, if I did there would be no emergency breaks if the Jeep came free. The law is specific about towing in all states except two and those might change too.

I tow either my 03 2dr Rubi or my wifes 09 4dr Rubi . The 03 is no special hook up electricaly 4 wires. The 09 I built a special wireing harness between the MH and the Jeep. I added a 5th wire that connects the MH start batterys to the Jeep battery to keep it charged up. I used a kit called TRIK-L-START I bought from a RV supply store. Have towed it for 10 hours at a time and had NO problem starting the Jeep when I got to where I was going. Do not have to unplug or disconnect anything. I also just bought a new tow bar a Roadmaster Blackhawk 2 All Terrain 10,000lb tow bar. The wireing harness I built has a 7 prong plug to go to the MH useing 5 of the connectors and a 6 prong plug useing 5 of the connectors to go to the Jeep. If any one needs more information contact me. Randy

Pretty much the same setup but I use Toad Charge to keep the JK batts up. Also a duplicate key so the JK steering wheel stays unlocked but won't start longer than a few secs. I use the SMI brake setup, Demco Aluminator tow bar and "quick remove" modified baseplate that works with my AEV bumper.

Blue Ox baseplate and towbar.
US Gear aux brake.
Cooltech wiring harness.
Spare key.
Pull the IOD fuse (large white fuse)

The whole system works well, I would recomend it as a good toad setup.

After putting the transfer case in neutral I open the lid of the fuse box in the engine compartment and pull up on the large white plastic fuse holder in there. This disconnects the dash lights at least. Then I put the key on acc to unlock the wheel. I've towed to Moab, Yuma, etc. and it always starts right back up, even if you left the white fuse holder pulled up; however you want it back down so your indicators work right. I suspect Chrysler purposely put that easy-to-find disconnect in there for towing but I can't find it mentioned anywhere.
