From the owner's manual:

NOTE: If you have added aftermarket accessories to the spare tire mounted carrier, it cannot exceed a gross weight of 50 lbs (23 kg) including the weight of the spare tire.

Obviously, folks are running much higher weights than that. A few have reported some problems; most have not. Search can help you find those threads.

As for fit: I think that will depend on your wheel offset. I suggest that you visit this area to learn much about your JK:

The factory spare tire carrier weights less than 50 pounds. I would place it somewhere around 30 pounds. As for how much weight it can hold. It can hold up to a 35x12.50 as long as your tire is pressed up against the rubber nipples, which keep from vibrations that can break the factory tire carrier.

And, as stated, depending where your wheel offset is you may have to purchase stronger, longer nipples (sorry, I like calling them that). Look up something like Daystar Jeep JK tailgate bumps, or something like that.

Spoke to the dealer today, they advised me that on my jk sahara 2009.
The carrier can hold my spare plus another 70lbs.
They told me as long as the rims and tires I plan on putting on touch the rubber pins.
Here is what I plan ultra thunder black 18x8.5 +32 offset with either Bridgestone dueler revo
or wrangler mtr/kevlar both in 275 65 18 according to people here they should fit with no rubbing
without a lift.I know they are 2 totally different tires, but I am worried that the wrangler would be to noisy and stiff, although they have a rating of C any help would be great.

Wow, that converts to a 32" tire. And an 18" rim. You won't find many folks on this board who would encourage you to do that. General rule of thumb is to have your wheel size be half of your tire size. So, a 16" wheel is good for a 32" tire. This provides your wheel protection when you air down (when off-roading).

But why 32s? Are you not lifting the Jeep at all? Are you not wheeling it at all? If you're just building a mall crawler ... forget that--you are building a mall crawler with that wheel tire combo! I suggest that you read through some of the threads on JK-Forum about tire size and consider if this is what you really want to do. If so, well, it's you Jeep--Enjoy! But don't expect may folks here to be terribly excited about what you're doing to your Jeep.

Just to clarify above, the stock spare tire carrier only weighs about 10lbs. it is exceptionaly light, but strong for its weight.
