Unhappy I wrecked my Jeep today.

I was on lunch at work and just driving down the road going around 40 when a car pulled out of a driveway and I hit her. The Jeep sustained major bumper damage, a damaged core support, and some suspension damage. Both of my airbags deployed and my seat belt locked. My Jeep had to be towed away from the scene as did the other vehicle.

The other vehicle was a Toyota Avalon, and I punch her pretty hard right in front of her front drivers wheel. I busted her radiator, broke her suspension and mangled her body. Her car is probably totalled. The damage on my Jeep is going to be at least $10k, so hopefully it will be more and they total it, so I can start over. If not, I'm going to try and use the money to get some nice aftermarket parts instead of replacing the originals with OEM.

Here is the one picture I have for now of the Jeep:

It doesn't look that bad in the picture, but there is some serious damage there. If they total it and I get a new Jeep, hopefully I'll get a green one. I'm really surprised that I'm not angry about the situation at all though, just a little annoyed that I won't have my rental until probably Monday or Tuesday when her insurance accepts fault.

Maybe if they do total it, I can reduce my payments by buying a used 07.

That really is good that you and the other driver are ok. Jeeps come and go.
I think it will be close for a total more likely be repaired. My June crash was just grateful to be alive. Hope it all works out for you.

We bought it for 14k 3 months before. Todays vehicles fall apart and get put back together easier that you think. As long as certain points don't get hit too bad, door frames, roof, etc...You're usually getting the same vehicle back, and it will never be the same. My wife's car creaks in the back end where it was hit. She is okay with it, it drives me nuts. Its the double edged sword of insurance.

Only way you'll really get to get aftermarket parts out of it, is if you were to take the check for the estimated damages and spend it how you feel at a shop you feel. Which the downside is if they find unforseen work and its between the shop and insurance, it usually gets worked with. If its between you and the shop...it's up to you. Just be watchful of that.

Sorry about the luck, but I wouldn't have my hopes up for a different Jeep. Just my experience

Yeah, I don't think it will be totalled out, since the frame doesnt seem damaged at all and the core support wasn't tweaked too bad. The radiator wasn't touched and neither was the engine, so that's good. I think the other car definately will though, since it was leaking bad. I think I punched it hard enough to move the engine and bust the transmission, since it wouldn't move under it's own power at all.
