Flashpaq update? If it ain't broke, do I upgrade?
I updated my Superchips Flashpaq the day that I got it. Then I plugged it in and selected the 91 tune. Since then I have ran about 15-20 tanks of 93 octane through it and I'm very pleased with everything running like it is.
So the question is: do I do a Flashpaq update every so often or do I just run with what I have and leave it alone?
The old technician in me remembers the old rule: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Do you guys think this holds true for Flashpaq updates?

I don't run an upgrade unless there is an additional feature or I am taking my vehicle to the dealer. Most of the upgrades only have more calibration files so they don't buy you anything. Just the same there are ongoing tweaks to the tunes available which may moderately increase performance.
So for me it's about 5-6,000 miles before I upgrade unless there is a new feature that I want to roll with.

In talking with them, it looks like they are continously tweaking it. Of course a new feature is always welcome too. I hook it up to the computer every couple of weeks to see what's new. You don't have to download an upgrade if you don't want. My newest favorite is the crawler tuning.
I am wondering one thing though: Having messed with computers for so long, it never seems like everything is wiped when a new system is installed. I'm wondering if we're going to run into the same thing with the ECU and the Superchip. When I trail I install the Crawler tuning as I air down. Then I reinstall my road tuning as I air back up at the end of the trail. (The Crawler doesn't work on the pavement.) I'm wondering how many times the ECU and the Flaspaq will allow that to happen before it gets confused.

It's really cool. The Jeep winds out at about 30 mph with it. It also feels like there's some kind of engine brake or torque converter vanes changing to retard acceleration when you let off the gas. With 30 mph max (in 2X Hi) imagine the throttle control you have in 4 low. I'm finally not breaking traction on every tough obstacle I come across.
