Default Noob Tire/Rim/will it fit question

So I'm new to Jeeps (love it so far) and was talking to a friend about picking up some rims and tires. He has had Jeeps for a while so I figured he would be a good resource (while I was waiting for my account here to be activated) He said he did some research and said that he found out that a stock JK could fit 33 1250. I did a little searching and found a set of 16" rims i liked. He suggested I buy 15" rims because the tires were a little cheaper and there might be a wider selection. To get to the point I have ordered 15X8 5-5 B12 rims and 33-1250R15/C2 108R W tires. Will this combo work. I sure hope so becasue I am supposed to get them put on tomorrow.

Because you ordered a 15" wheel, your backspacing better be 3.75" or else you will have rubbing against the brake caliber.

Make sure when you get them installed you only have one mounted to check for clearance. Pay attention to brake calipers and fender rub in the front. Once tires are mounted on wheels they cannot be returned.

I have tried to search the specific rim I ordered, Unique 297 (15X8 5-5 12B) and can not find the specifications. I also HAVE NOT PAID for these rims or tires yet. I purchased them through Discount Tire and basically they source the rims and tires from stores around the country if they do not have them in stock, you drive in and they put them on. I would hope that if i have not paid, that if they did not fit they would try to charge me. I have not even given them CC info. I feel like i would be in the clear there. I honestly wish that it ha not taken a week for my acct to be activated so I could have asked these questions BEFORE I ordered them. I guess I could have waited but I'm a pretty impatient person... We'll see how it works out.

So i do not know how with all of the searching I was doing on the specific rims that it did not come up before, but I found on unique's webpage that the back spacing is 4". Will this satisfy the requirements, meaning is from 3.75 to 4 going the correct direction, or would a back spacing with a smaller number also fit?

Don't even mount the tire. Check one rim on the front without the tire even being mounted. It wouldn't hurt to try it on the rear too. But I think the front brakes are bigger and more likely to rub.

you would be better to go with at least a 16" wheel if not larger. I have the 2.5 bb and I am running 35" mud grapplerswith no probs what so ever . but the are on 18" sahara wheels w/ 1.5" spidertrax spacers

Why? If you are running 18s, what is that comment based on? Lots of us a running 15s...........

jdredrock, I am running 15s with a 33x12.50 tire with no issues. You are mixing up a couple of points though and need to think of them separately.

1) You first need the wheel to fit - which means clear the calipers. BryGuy did a great post about 3 weeks ago that lists 15s that are known to work and known not to. I have a post on here about mounting my 15" Pro Comps and DuraTracs as well. You did not mention what JK you drive, but 15s SEEM to go on easier if you have the D30 front axle.

2) Once your wheel clears, will your tires clear. My back spacing is 3.75 and with the 12.50s, they cleared fine.

Finally, Discount Tire is a great company. They have no questions price match and 30 day return policy. I had them mount the wheel first, then the tire and wheel to check clearance. They knew going in that I wasnt sure. Be upfront and honest with them and they will work with you. Don't wait for it not to fit to say no deal..... Btw, they have 12 months no interest on their cr card right now!

Be sure to have them check 'all' wheels on all corners. There have been several reports of only one or two rims in the set rubbing on one corner, but being fine on the others...
