Default Help! Tire/wheel fitment questions

Help! The cash is burning a hole in my pocket! (Granted, it 's not a very big hole...)

I'm ready to upgrade the wheels and tires on my stock '09 JK X. I don't really want to go big, don't want to regear, don't want a huge lift since it's my DD. I have the towing package (3.73 rear end) and auto transmission.

According to the FAQ, 255/75 17s will fit on my '09 JK X without a lift, and
without rubbing. I went to Discount Tire yesterday shopping for tires. The guy told me that 17" Black Rock 909s with Goodyear DuraTrac 265/70 17 will not fit my JK without a lift. I told him that 255/75s fit the Rubicon without a lift. He said Rubicons are lifted (at least compared to the X) which I wasn't aware of, and that the 265/70 is a taller tire, which I know not to be true. Wider, yeah, taller, no. He said I needed a wheel with negative offset or the tires would rub.

Personally, I think he's just going by what his system tells him.

Has anyone upgraded their X 16" wheels to 17" wheels with 4" backspacing and 265/70s? Anyone have experience with these particular wheels?

For the record, I'm not adverse to installing something like a 1" BB if that's what I have to do, but I want to get the tires and wheels NOW.

I considered that. And I like dealing with Discount Tire. But, their price on the wheels was about $100 PER WHEEL higher than quadratec!

to save money go with a 16'' tire and wheel
265/75/16 fit no lift no rub
285/75/16 fit with aftermarket wheels little to no rubbing
265/70/17 same as 265/75/16
you could use your stock wheels with the 265 no rubbing

they are smoking crack!! I have a stock x the jeep is the same whether it has 16s 17s or 18s . Call tire rack they will hook you up. the stock bfg rubi 255/75x17 tires about 129.00 each and if you by the wheels from them they will mount and balance them for you. you can even purchase the tpms sensors from them. I ran them for about a year with no rubbing at all

I have a stock 09 x jk with 255/75-17 they fit fine, but with hard turns it rubs the sway bar. can't feel it but the marks ar there to prove it. so with a wider tire you'll get the rub too. sorry i dunno about the backspacing.
