Which cab cover works with top up AND down?
Hey all,
Looking for a cab cover that'll work with the soft top in the up position as well as in the down position.
It'll be used primarily with the top down, but since my top leaks worse than my 8 month old son, it'd be nice to throw the cab cover on with the top to keep the puddles out.
Here's the list I have so far.
Bestop - works with the top down, unsure if it works with the top up - doesnt look like it would
Covercraft - same concerns as the Bestop
Rampage - works with the top up, guessing it'll work with the top down, but I believe it'll sag with the top down which will cause pooling and eventually begin leaking.
Mopar - very much like the Rampage and with the same concerns with pooling.
Smittybilt - works with the top down, not designed to work with the top up
For cost reasons I'm leaning towards the Rampage or the Smitty + Tarp.
Thoughts and comments from owners would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I had a cab cover for my TJ from Raingear. It only worked with the top off but it was EXCELLENT quality and worked VARY well. I really wish they would make one for the JK.
I think I am going to buy a full cover. Works with the top on or off and is very easy to put on ( faster and easier than a cab cover ). The only problem I forsee is water pooling up when the top is off. I was thinking of making some sort of "top props" to keep the top bowed so water flows off the top instead of pooling.
I can't answer any of the questions you had about the other tops as I never used any of them.

I have the one from quadratec. I mainly use it under my carport top down at night. Also when parked top down. It has rained on it and I didn't notice any leaks. I've had it two years now and still looks brand new. I don't see any reason you couldn't use it with the top on. I can't give you a brand name I'm not at home to check.
Usually I have the safari top/Windjammer/Duster combo and the Bestop Trail Cover to keep everything dry. But, the last few days I've had the softtop on (remnants from recent trip to Moab), and have been using the Bestop Trail Cover with it because I have tube doors on. Keeps the bugs, cats and most of the rain out. I can install the Trail Cover by folding the rear part (that would normally slope down at 45 degrees to the tailgate) under, then attaching it only to my rock rails using cords that I installed*. It does a fair job of covering most of the door openings, which was my concern (my softtop doesn't leak .. yet!). Anyway, it's a ghetto answer, but it does the job for me.
*Note: The gap between the rock rails and the pinch seam that the Bestop Trail Cover uses normally is very small on my JK. I had originally ground down the J-clips that attach to the pinch seam, but after a Disney run last year that gap was made even smaller. So, I installed short pieces of cord to each securing strap on the Trail Cover, and now tie those around the rock rails. While this means that the seal between the Trail Cover and the JK's bodywork isn't tight, the resulting gaps usually keep out all but the worst rain--and then I'll get plenty of water in the JK just pulling the Trail Cover off anyway! LOL!

I have the bestop and it works OK. Had to modify the too long straps a bit and also carry around a foam block, probably 4x4x4" that I place on top of the sound bar to eliminate pooling over the front seats. It works fine now and no problems with cats using my Jeep as a litter box when it's in use, wind doesn't blow off the straps in storms, and no more pools of water to dump on myself when I'm trying to drain the lake.
Oh and a quick edit, it does not work with the top up.

I'm guessing that with my teraflex sliders I'll have to definitely lengthen the straps on the Bestop huh?
There's a used Rampage FS here that the owner had reinforced the straps. Hopefully he still has it and if so, I'll try that first.
Thanks guys!

I have the Rampage cover, works great with top up, when top is down it does good protecting from bird crap, dust, and leaves. In the rain it will pool because it sags some, mine leaked some but nothing crazy. I use mine everyday. Not bad for only $50 off of ebay.

Getting ready to order the SmittyBuilt or the Best Top for my 2dr JK. Quick Bump to see if there is any more feedback.
All of these covers state *Water Resistant*, my question is how resistant are they? i.e. If properly installed with a mini mod to prevent pooling how much rain can it handle before it drips into the cab?
Thanks!
