I've towed a 5000 pound trailer with my 2012 Jku. It handled it, but I can't imagine towing 7650 pounds with that same engine. I guess the theory that the Jku was limited to 3500 because it is a convertible is not true.

Yeah saw that too. I think I would rather go the diesel route on the Gladiator.

The diesel will have a lower tow rating per the article I read. Due to lack of cooling in the diesel.

I was thinking the same thing Rob.

I've towed 1800# teardrop with my 3.8 and yeesh that was well, bad. 7650 with a 3.6 I cannot imagine all the downshifting needed to go up into the mountains in Colorado. I was thinking like Ryan was diesel engine. It'll be a bit and I'd like to give it a year before I go buying any brand new model. Let them work out some of the kinks with the bulletins and what not first. I hope they make a 2D gladiator with that eco diesel.

Although I wouldn’t tow with my Jeep, it wasn’t that long ago when pickups had lower horsepower, and torque ratings, and towed all the time. I guess it is time and perspective.

my jkur with 4.10's handled a 3000lb trailer no problem. Not that it would have won a drag race but it could get out of its own way...7000+lb I think it would struggle to get out of its own way. My understanding was the diesel is heavier that is why the reduction in tow capacity as overall gvwr is affected.

I read a quite detailed article about the gladiator towing. It said the diesel was a lower rating because the engine component size, shape, and placement does not allow for as effective cooling compared to the gas engine. It wasn't that far off though, only like 250 pounds less.
