Its not really obsolete, people still pay good money for any soft top. only difference is the size of the rear window is larger on the newer ones (more viewing area), and the door surrounds are different. But still works on all years as long as you sell the door surrounds with it for the matching model soft top (ex: door surrounds for model 1 soft top 2007-2009, door surrounds for model 2 soft top 2010+). So not obsolete at all!! Sell that thing man, there are plenty of buyers out there.

differences:
2007-2009: smaller rear window and the soft top had a plastic piece on the edge of the canvas that would be stretched and pushed into the door surround channels to make the top tight and snug to the door surrounds
2010+: larger rear window and the soft top has no plastic edge needing to be fitted into the door surround channel, upgraded to a cable system that just holds the top tight to the door surround.

so you have had no problems with the 2012 top on your 08? did you have to swap headers also or just the door surrounds and tailgate bar?

The 2011 and 2012 soft top are the same.

[qoute]so you have had no problems with the 2012 top on your 08? did you have to swap headers also or just the door surrounds and tailgate bar? [/quote]

no problems at all, any year top will fit with no issues at all, as long as 100% of the parts/hardware match the top. IE 2007-2010 canvas and all corresponding parts must match the years (header, surrounds, windows etc must be for 2007-2010). 2011+ will work as long as all corresponding parts match the year of the top as well.

When it comes to tops on Jeeps with mixing tops with different years the soft tops have ZERO issues, the only problem is with the hardtops. The all hardtops will work and fit with all years but require minor modifications. in the newer models 2010+ you need to move the guide pin in the back, and move the center loop/hoop latch for the freedom panels to the left and trim the interior plastic windshield surround.

From my understanding, if you use the complete top, frame and all, it will work on a different year. Ex. 08 on a 12 or a 12 on an 08. It just has to be the complete top.
