I have an '09 2 door. I pull the upper lever (there are two) and the back tilts forward and the seat slides forward. After I am done, I just push the seat back backward and it and the seat go back to the original position.

Yup. When the pin slides out of its normal position, the seat will no longer slide forward.

It's really stupid.

Thanks

I just went to the dealership yesterday to check out the new 2011's no fold and tumble. It is my understanding it was removed for safety's sake, a few too many passenger seat ejections in accidents, so the dealer says.

sounds like a dealer that wants to sell more 4 doors.....

in my 2010 the seat slides almost all the way to the dash.. much better than when I had rented a 2007 couple years ago......

in the 2007 you had to pull the seat forward wit hthe bottom lever and then fold the back forward with the side lever.....

First of all, there is no 'tumble' feature on JKs. I don't know where that confusion started. The seatback is supposed to fold forward and the seat is supposed to slide all the way to the dash when the entry lever is pressed toward the rear.

If you rotate the seatback to its normal position before sliding it back, it will return to the exact position it was adjusted to before the rear passenger entered or exited.

Now for the pics:

The pin that engages the remote release inside the the outermost seat rail had slipped out of its slot. There appears to be nothing to hold it in place. It works well if it doesn't slip out, but when it does, it is a PITA. Pretty stupid design if you ask me!

The photo below was taken before the fix. It's the view looking from beneath the middle of the passenger seat and looking toward the door.

Look at the photo above and notice the rod with a spring. Just below the left side of it it is the end of the pin I mentioned.

Now look to the right of the spring and notice that there is a rod that enters the frame that has a tab attached. This tab is in the wrong position. It needs to align with the pin you identified above and the pin needs to be inserted into the detent that the tab has which isn't visible in my photo.

Another Jeeper contributed this photo of how it looks when the pin is in the proper position:

"The seatback is supposed to fold forward and the seat is supposed to slide all the way to the dash when the entry lever is pressed toward the rear."

"all the way to the dash" is not an accurate description in my '10 rubicon, thought it goes as far foward as the rails will allow it, leaving not nearly enough room for anyone over 10 to climb in.

by far, inferior to the fold and tumble in my 1998, which worked the way a jeep seat should work.

If yours doesn't go all the way to the point where the headrest contacts the dash it isn't working correctly. Make sure you are releasing the seat using the upper lever on the side of the seatback. Push the lever straight back and if it's working correctly, the seat will easily slide forward and the seatback will fold simultaneously.

Don't confuse the slide forward action with releasing the bar across the front of the seat. If you do that, the seat will not move all the way forward.
