2010 Sunrider Soft Top Sun Roof
SubscribeDisclaimer...searched high and low on this forum, still gotta ask about:
Having a 2010 4 door Unlimited Sport, built Oct 2009, soft top only
Both the Jeep video, and starting on page 225 of the paper and PDF manual on dropping the sun roof only portion of the soft top, show different ways, with different parts, when detailing how to open the sun roof, compared to what I have on my 2010 JEEP
BTW, here is the JEEP video which I suspect is for a 2009 4 door unlimited
.jeep.com/en/owners/soft_top_guide/wrangler_unlimited_soft_top_guide/[/url]
I don't have the front and rear door rail retainers sewn into the soft top that they video says to pull out, nor does it look like they were ever sewn into the soft top. My leading edges of the soft top have nothing to pull out of from the drip rail retainers...my front part of the soft top edges are completely smooth
I don't have the plastic sleeves that the manual says to move
I don't have the flexible bow joint that the video shows, in order to double (actually shows a triple fold) of the header material and bow onto the top of the soft top
I searched here...many posts on this subject....can someone direct me to a post or video detailing, how, for Oct 2009 and later built 2010 Unlimited soft tops, it shows the sun roof opening information...again, I suspect everything is 2009 related...or I have a hybrid soft top and/or a JEEP that was built on a Friday or Monday.
I will try to post some pics of this.
Final question for extra credit...manual says to remove the rear window if you're driving 60MPH or above with the soft top open...does everyone do this?

I have a 10 also and just put my soft top on. The top has tension springs that are built in. Just unlatch the header clamps and fold it back and pack the material in a neat fold. No material should hang down in the rear passenger area. This was a change I beleive to correct some problems they had in the past with previous tops.

Well, this sounds good, I do exactly what you described above, its all I need to do -vs- what the video and paper/PDF manual say to do.Originally Posted by Firetuck

I'm guessing JEEP didn't update the directions for opening the sun roof after they made changes for 2010
BTW, do you remove your rear window when you have the sun roof open and drive at 60MPH or above? (Probably not needed with the changes to the 2010 soft top/sun roof)
Thanks....

I remove the rear and side windows at 50km/h or above. I don't like how the windows get sucked right in when you drive it like that. It also reduces the possibility of exhaust entering the cabin. Whether you do or not is probably best left to personal preference though. But it's not THAT hard to roll up your rear window before you drive on the highway.

Quick question from another 2010 Unlimited owner. I put my hard top into storage today and installed the factory soft top for the first time. I have to say that I'm pretty impressed with the design, but a couple nagging "did I do it right" questions.Originally Posted by MACE24

mainly - how do you find the fit of the side windows? The leading edge seems to be a 90 degree formed piece that just pinches into the rear door jamb. It doesn't seem to have the form to want to clip into the rear door jamb - just pinches in there with the door closed. The top couple inches seem a bit loose/exposed.
other than that, the spring/cable design above the drip rails looks perfect - a nice tight fit. The header was a good tight fit as well.
I was completely baffled about the rear window / tailgate bar install - until I looked into the bottom of the window box and found the two channel clips and the velcro-elastic straps that I thought were missing.

I was confusied by this the first time I installed mine as well. The best way I can describe it is this.Originally Posted by Coley

The side window frame has a slot in it that is open at the front. This slot runs almost the length of the vertical plastic piece. The window has the very stiff "L" shaped piece of plastic on the front which is wrapped in the soft top material. That piece of plastic needs to go into the slot in the frame. The trick is to start the zipper on the window but only about an inch. Then you "roll" the stiff plastic piece in the window into the slot in the vertical window frame.... now the front of the window is secure and will seal up when the door closes. It also wont fall out when the door is open. Next roll the bottom part of the window into the jeep body from the front to the back. (it will be tight.) Finally, zip the window all the way and smooth out the velcro.
Once you get it figured out you will be amazed and how quickly you can take the top up and down. I can take the top all the way down in less than 4 mintues all by myself.

Is there a good video for the 2-door? I just got a softtop in the mail and I'm going to need help operating it...Originally Posted by whpony96

Also, it came with the door surrounds, but I don't have the 4(?) bolts that attach the surround to the frame... I've read that some people have gone to ACE Hardware (or other hardware store) for bolts that work just fine. What size/type should I get if I go that route? Also, on the door surround, just in front of the rear 'C' that goes over the frame, there are two holes, about 2" apart... does anything go there? I can send a pic if needed...
Thanks for the help!
