2011 Rubicon JK...Decision to Make
At the time, I was in a bad spot, and never researched it. It was built exactly like we wanted it. Too bad. That being said, our 2014 is a dandy jeep and we love it too.
i have a 6 spd man transmission 2012 . I noticed mine weeping at that seam as well my 12 has 2 holes there. However i tried to determine where its comming from the main engine seal or tranny . I noted that the oil weep was clearer than the color of my engine oil . by way of cleaning the area up and then checking the color of oil on my engine oil dipstick after a couple of thousand miles . The transmission oil was yellowish like new and the engine oil a tad brownish , So i was able to determine the oil is transmission oil not engine oil or it would have been darker in color . My transmission was taken apart when it was new due to a bad syncro . I dont know that that is why it is weeping years later or not however i do recall being handed a notice from the dealer on another weeping part i had on my 2011 sport in general saying they wont replace weeping gaskets . It has to be a leak ( more steady than a weep ) mine weeps now on my 12 rubicon but no notice of any loss of engine or transmission oil. No sense in having them pull things apart and maybe end up with things worse off. and Im glad its not rear engine seal because that ive read can end up leaking more after they replace the seal due to the design. hopefully its your transmission rather than engine oil seal. Mine does not drip onto floor it just weeps at different intervals . I wipe it clean and keep my eye on it for now . until i see its leaking or loosing oil
Me personally would look into it deeper before buying a new jeep unless your not still loving the jeep your driving. I still love my jeep over the newer models and prefer to deal with things as they happen rather than just get rid of it because it's not new. A brand new one could have issues as well as you know ! Even if you
traded it in . Not that it isnt nice to have a brand new one, I just happen to like the one i have, and its been a reliable vehicle over all and i just prefer the looks over the newer ones (Good luck either way you decide )
BTW 5 grand
A good jeep dealer could drop and repair in one day im sure if they want to . But 150 bucks to try doing it in your driveway wouldnt be somthing id try either unless you have a lot of experience id imagine (not me )

Isn't it funny how we automatically go for worst case scenario. Let this be a lesson though, check your oil OFTEN. No matter if your rig is brand new. Things like a leaky oil filter can cause real damage.
